Mitrovic – World cup Star?

Another International under his belt for Serbia and Mitros on fire once again, this time with a hat-trick.

Serbia hammered Bolivia 5-1  with the Newcastle man (who spent the final months of the season on loan at Fulham) scoring his first after just four minutes, his second on the 23rd and wrapped up the hat-trick after 68. Highlights including all Mitros goals are below the third being the pick of the bunch.

The well-liked Serbian has divided toon fans after being loaned out, some backing Rafa’s decision and some wondering why he was allowed to go when all we had in reserve in his mould was Joselu.

As much as Rafa likes the frontman, he’s made the point that with his current squad, he simply couldn’t fit the system to fit him in, they don’t have the possessive quality that is needed…yet

“Mitro needed to play. I couldn’t guarantee the way that we wanted to play (he would play). If you know Mitro really well – if you attack and you create a lot of chances and crosses he will score goals, no doubt that. But a team that has 40-45 or even 35% possession in some games, you have to defend in some games, you have to play counter-attack. If you don’t have all these players who can do that and you have to sacrifice something.” – Rafa Benitez, March 2018

Will Rafa be given the funds to be able to strengthen his squad and bring back Mitro to make use of the young strikers current run of form? or will he be sold to bring those funds in?

What will make a vast difference to that scenario is how Mitrovic fairs in the world cup, if he keeps up his goalscoring antics on the biggest stage in world football he’ll no doubt have suitors, and a transfer fee to match his potential… any profit is normally too much for Mike Ashley to turn down.

So far in 2018 for Serbia, he’s scored 5 in 4 with one assist, and  12goals in 18 appearances for Fulham. Those might be the kind of stats that make him worth a look at any top goal scorer markets over on MyBettingSites . Might even be worth checking out the price on Serbia, they have a wealth of experienced in the squad with the likes of Matic, Ivanovic and Kolarov, mixed in with hot prospects like Mitro up top and this seasons SerieA star Sergej Milinković-Savić (Lazio – below).

Toon fans will be hoping Mitro has a great world cup, but the reasons for it are split down the middle for now…
