  1. I echo the cautious optimism. I think you said earlier that if all of this falls apart, Rafa goes and we're left with some Hughes esque chancer, you'll chuck it in - words to that effect anyway. That's broadly where I am. I can afford to be optimistic about this because if it does all go tits up, I think it'll finish off the last lingering parts of me that still care. So it's euphoria or apathy for me

  2. Good post. I thinkany people who slag off New Labour and its achievements don't grasp the context of the time. Thatcherism had fundamentally changed us as a country and permanently moved the pendulum far to the right, which pulled everything else with it. A lot of New Labour would have preferred stronger socialist policies but that door was already closed. As an aside, remember the calibre of politician we had in Blairs cabinet and contrast it with today's. The New Labour years were halcyon days.

  3. It’s unknowable. Am taking silence as a positive tbh. The last two bids have been a lot more public...

  4. Smells linked to the movie? So, if you went to see Men in Black, the sweet smell of horseshit would waft through the room?

  7. Yeah sadly that’s the mantra, it’s absolutely appalling. Blair made life better for a lot of people & won 3 elections by landslides. I’m exhausted listening to people equate Blairism with Thatcherism as well. Not only is it profoundly stupid & ignorant, it’s also largely pointless and will only cause division. You can have the nicest politics in the world & labour have had far left socialists before but it matters not if you can’t win an election. Also - I don’t think there’s a british government in history that wouldn’t have went to war with iraq.

  8. Their failure to recognise or celebrate any of New Labour’s achievements is a disgrace. Lumping them in with the Tories as Rayvin does is some shameful shit.

  9. They're the worst bunch of know-nowts around. They assume because he's called Longstaff and not Longstafio that he's a plodder. Most of them haven't seen him play even once. I'd hate us to pick up this kind of supporter when we're stinking rich

  10. Maybe the deal is a week away from being completed? Maybe the new owners have already been in touch with Rafa and told him to sit tight? At this stage we should maybe refrain from shitting our keks, though I understand for you Noelie that is a pre-existing condition.

  13. He seems to have done a decent enough job with the younger players at Derby this season so they might hope he can repeat it with their lot, considering the transfer ban and the older ones might actually listen to a bloke they played with. The fans will give him more time as well. Hope it all goes tits up, anyway.

  14. If he does well at Derby then he’ll get another chance for the Chelsea job in 12 months time. He doesn’t need to rush.

  15. I think am fairly sure now about one thing, no taker over = no Rafa next season.
