I've never understood the whole notion of blanket respect for the troops. I was at a wedding a couple of years ago, the groom was in the Navy, as were all his mates. All in uniform and, to a man, a giant set of noisy cunts. Fuck respect, I spent all day lamenting the fact that their boat hadn't sunk.6 points

It’s getting like that with the military over here. I’m not sure why you deserve instant respect just for having served in the armed forces. There’s a lad I went to school with who was a squaddie for a short time in the 90s. Incidentally he was both thick as fuck and (oddly) soft as shite. He started referring to himself as a ‘veteran’ on social media. I think the closest he got to any action was getting filled in by some locals in Germany6 points

She served multiple tours in the US Air Force and died storming her own government's buildings. This is why "respect the troops" is a bullshit notion. A good portion of them are fucking halfwits.5 points

It’s a wholesome design for his local canoe club- sculling is a paddling technique, using a paddle, hence the skull and cross-paddles. The 3rd Herrliches Reich Kanutruppen group are simply an outdoors loving bunch of canoe-enthusiasts, who hate Jews and black folks.3 points

BTW I got the same 12 hour twitter ban for calling Farage a cunt that Trump has received for initiating a coup.3 points

There was someone on that Death to 2020 who made the good point that Trump is a moron (tbh the only reason he got there was because no one else was stupid enough to try his tactic) but what will be really worrying is when a Trump with a modicum of intelligence comes along. That’s when things get really dangerous.2 points

They’re really nice. I’ve been a Stan Smith man for years but I’ve noticed the youngsters at work starting to wear them on a Friday, and that is putting me off. They should stick to those Weeezey hovercraft looking monstrosities, posted earlier in thread, and leave Stan Smiths for us middle aged bastards. It’s tantamount to cultural appropriation.2 points

“Work Will Set You Free” was a slogan used above the entrances to concentration camps. (As above) Except it didn’t & it was merely a cruel trick specifically targeting Jewish inmates. The Germans, a largely agricultural nation at the turn of the century couldn’t understand how Jewish people accumulated wealth without sweating for it. So anti Jewish propaganda & conspiracy theories about them running the world & being in line with commies etc were easily digested by the German people, who had to work hard post WW1 but were still desperately poor, especially in light of the terms of the Versailles treaty. (Which they believed was overseen by Jews) I visited Dachau memorial site just outside of Munich and the stories were horrific. For a work related “story” - German officers would regularly gather groups of Jewish prisoners and March them off to a corner of the site. They’d order them to start digging & obviously having seen the sign the Jewish lads worked their arses off and shifted tons of soil. At the end the Germans told them to fill the hole back in & it’s back to the barracks. “work will set you free”2 points

I think you're being too harsh on him. I think if we had been playing football on the deck a bit more last season and he wasn't so fucking isolated, he'd have better acclimatised to the English game. If he was played in his proper position with a decent players and a settled, sound system, he'd look better. As it is, in this team, only the 'keeper and a couple of defenders look like they're playing anywhere near their level. If we'd kept Rondon and Perez, added Joelinton and Almiron I think the big Brazilian wouldn't look half as bad as he does. I blame Bruce and the coaching team. Not just for how bad Joelinton's looked, but how bad the Longstaff's have been, Almiron, the fullbacks, the whole team really. Joelinton just gets the lion's share of criticism because we spent £40m on him, and Bruce inexplicably kept playing him out of position.1 point
