  1. Can't see how he's done anymore than Hughton. If anything Hughton was even more reluctant to toe the party line so get the vote over AP from me

Can you give an example of Hughton's reluctance to toe the party line?

He played hell when Carroll was sold and not replaced and was sacked soon after.

Pardew has had Barton, Enrique and Nolan flogged and has barely grumbled. Let's not pretend Pardew wasn't solely employed as a YES man just because Joey Barton said something nice about him.

Neither could hold a candle to Keegan or Robson either btw. Like either of those would have stood for MA changing the name of the ground, plastering huge signs everywhere or buying and selling players behind the managers backs.

    Mental.

Or am I missing some outrageous sarcasm.

  2. I think Chez might be about half right with his interpretation.

Personally I think most of Ashley's actions in the last couple of months point to the fact that he has very little cash. I'd say his cashflow is pretty much knackered.

  3. I'd say that most of the previous regimes faults arose from taking knee jerk decisions regarding the management of the squad. They always managed to replace previous managers with polar opposites of what had went before. This led to disruption and cash being wasted on contracts for players that were not fancied by the new managers. Which also meant they needed to spend more money on players that the new manager wanted.

Shepherd and the young Hall were also a bit too media whore for my liking but they are certainly not the worst culprits in this regard.

  4. If this thread has done nothing else Leazes (and it has, it's made you look a tit again), at least you now know what a u-turn is.

the tits were those who backed Souness to the end, and those who said "anybody but Fred would do better than this".

And a u-turn is what you did rather than just admit you got it all wrong.

Anyway, I don't honestly know why you got involved in this thread......unless you are obsessed like mancmag and MF :rip:

Surely a U-turn would be admit you were wrong.

  5. Anyone certainly COULD do better than Freddie. There is no doubt about that. Freddie was abysmal, and wasted loads of money on, among others, Michael Owen.

Thank goodness Freddie no longer has anything to do with Newcastle United. I still find it joyous to utter those words.

Brilliant hindsight, but how could bringing England's number one striker in at the time be construed as anything other than being ambitious and taking advantage of the club's stature in the market.

Then again you seem to think Ashley is the best owner in the league...

At least the previous owners tried to fix problems with the squad and the staff as they saw it, the current ones appear to be trying to create problems at every turn.

  6. Already got a PS3 in another room, which I'm trying to get the streamy thing working with - on hold due to decorating. But this is for the living room, don't really want to shell out for a massive xbox to further clutter an already cluttered space.

Looks like it might be possible to do what I want with the Wii which is kind of gathering dust under the living room telly at the moment. At least to an extent, the picture quality will clearly not be anywhere near as good.

On a side note I truly detest decorating.

  7. I think you can rent films on it, or use it to stream stuff from the pc onto the telly box. Which is kind of what I want to do but also look at iplayer on the tv. Which I think makes the Sony one the better bet. Unless you can't rent films on the Sony?

  8. Of course Martin Samuel couldn't keep that up forever. Fat pig.

Having earned almost universal sympathy over the injury to Hatem Ben Arfa, only a club governed with as little thought as Newcastle United could concede the high ground so readily overnight.

A list of grievances has now been submitted to Mike Riley, the Premier League’s head of referees, dating back over several matches.

Newcastle, we presume, are the only club who ever get a lousy call against them. Self-absorbed whingeing is nothing new in the Premier League, but the moment all rapport would have been lost came with Newcastle’s moan that Carlos Tevez should have received a second yellow card for leaving the pitch to go over to the Manchester City bench during his goal celebration.

Here are a football club that want a player sent off for being happy to have scored against them. Truly these men do not cast a shadow.

I'm not sure it was even that way around - wasn't he booked for the challenge on Krul, 5-10 minutes after the goal celebration?

  9. When clubs look for a new manager they usually look for one who has similar ideas and similar systems to the previous manager so he's able to take the same players, add one or two, and take them forward. Hodgson wants to get rid of any players who can play a bit of football and replace them with hoofers which is why he continually plays Carra with Skrtl and calls Daniel Agger a part of his B team.

Literally the opposite way Newcastle have appointed managers over the past 20 years.

  10. There is a nice place in a beautiful old building with massive high celilings and old architecture on the road parallel and north of princess st. Thats all i can remember without googling.

The Dome? It's in an old bank I think. Really nice inside and has a grill thing where you can get food.

HF, if you do fancy dusit, I would make a reservation cos it's canny popular.

The Dome on George street is nice like, definitely recommend it. Tiles nearby is alright for lunch - they have Leffe on draft.

I'd check out the Maison Bleu which is on the road leading up from the grassmarket heading to the high street in the old town. The place is trendily shabby in an ancient house, reasonably priced for french food. The venison (ask for it rare) was out of this world when I last went.

If you fancy veggie try David Bann's on St Mary's street (around the corner from the World's end pub). There's a fantastic pub round the corner from this as well which serves every lager known to man and first class burgers - I forget its name. It's on Holyrood street though.

Finally, you could try Chop Chop which is near the Haymarket. I've passed this but never been - it was a finalist on last years Ramsay's best restaurants.

    "Restrunt" I think you'll find.

Thats the one. Lovely inside, i had Lindisfarne mussels to start which were so-so.

Is there a place called Brown's? The last time i was going up there, the old harbour master from Blyth was round our gaff (having a shnifter of brandy) and he recommended a place. Think it was called that but the memories are a bit hazy for one reason or another.

Browns is a chain of restaurants of which one is on George St.

I know the chain, thought it might have just had the same name.

    Good chain though nonetheless.

Aye, it's canny enough from my experience.
