The selection system seems a bit strange to me. You would think the coach (in particular) and captain would have the biggest say. Who are the selectors currently other than Bayliss?

I see Ben Ducket got 160 for the lions against Pakistan A yesterday. Had a look at his county record and it looks pretty imressive.

I'm pretty happy with this signing if it goes through as expected. I still expect Mbemba and Lacelles to be our first choice pairing but clearly we need more in that position. You can't go through a championship season with just two centrebacks. He seems to be pretty well respected at Blackburn especially in the last couple of seasons when he's apparently sorted is life out a bit more. On the few times I've seen him he's not looked massively cultured but looks like the sort of defender who wins a lot of challenges, particularly in the air, so you notice him. That's something that has been lacking in our defence for a few years. I think these three will play a lot this season. Ok he may not be an exciting signing to play in the premier league but I think he will be a good signing to help get us there and hopefully he can develop under Rafa. Think we need another in as back up too. Hayden can apparently play there and we no Dummett can do a short term job there but I think we need a specialist for that position. I think I read earlier that we used 6 or 7 players in that position in the last promotion season. We'll be well short if we need that many again.

Watched the first episode of it last night and it looks good. Also started watching that OJ documentary which is interesting so far. Only seen the first part which ends as he first meets his second wife. I'm guessing it will get even more interesting from here but I did enjoy finding out about him as a footballer which I knew very little about previously.

Ali has contributed very little (other than that one good knock against Sri Lanka) in the last year or so. I think he's looking really vunerable now.

I was massively disapointed with Blade Runner when I first watched it. Think I was expecting something like Star Wars with Ford starring and of course it's very different. Love it now though. Particularly good to watch stoned.

I highly recommend all of those. Can't believe you've not seen them.

I was out til five on Saturday morning then three on Sunday. Apparently Friday night was the most pissed I've been since my early twenties. I can't remember but the way I still feel today seems to back it up.

Just one of the 40 yr olds! My point is exactly what you're saying. It shouldn't matter what gender they are. But they made a conscious decision to make a female led film. I just don't like that sort of thing. If they were just writing a script and it just evolved into something that fit a female cast then fine. But from what I've read, the film makers decided in advance. That sort of thing just doesn't lead to good films imo. And then the specific choice of actresses just makes it worse for me. Of course it's a completely separate thing to the original so whether it's any good or not will have no more impact on my feelings towards the original than Jaws The Revenge did.

I hate the idea that they decided they wanted to make a Ghostbusters film with a female cast. It just seems unessesary to think of film making in that way. I also can't really stand the main lass they've picked so I really have no interest in watching it.

Murder In The Park. Documentary about a guy wrongly (or rightly) put on death row for murdering a you couple in a park (oddly enough) in 82. Really interesting story in itself and also compared to the cases of Steven Avery and The West Memphis Three.

Hangovers in your 40's seem to be no picnic. Think I'm going to have rethink my weekends going forward.

We should do better the next match with Anderson and Stokes back. Finn was poor this match and Ball while OK on his debut, isn't as strong as those two. Stokes improves the batting too. Pakistan were excellent mind and Yasir is going to cause us problems all series. It will be interesting to see how things develop.

This to me is the way we should have started pre season for years. Play someone shit and put a few past them with out new signings already in place. Get a bit of confidence. We all say results don't matte but it's always better to be winning.

Finn seems to have these runs of poor form that he struggles to get out of. When he's in them he's not much use at all but when he's on song he's a real threat. Looks like we're really going for the win with the way we've started. Cook 41 off 51 and Root 39 off 50.

Quality from Woakes. I think Finn's place might be under threat for the next game. All out before lunch on the second day for less than 350, we might have a chance of a result yet.

Don't think we should consider below £25m in the current market. I seriously doubt we'll get £35m but we should be playing hardball. Fuck him, we owe him nothing, we've given him the opportunity to play at a high level and his attitude and effort has been shit.

Good for Ball to get his first wicket pretty quickly. Bit of an unfortunate one for the batsman but they all count. Still not expecting anything but a draw here.
