The first half hour was one of the funniest I have seen on telly ever. Cheryl changing Nana's bag was genius. I thought you could see Phil Mealey's infulence on it like. A lot of it was more obvious than it used to be, like Early Doors. Incidently I watched the last Extra's just before it and was pissing myself at that too. Robert Lindsey was fucking excellent.

He'll need to get his management course finished too!

From what I've heard Roeder's only job this season is to keep us up until Shearer takes over next season so I really can't see us spending much in January at all. Apparently Shearer already has a list of who he wants in so I would say any decent money moves would have to come with his approval.

Film/moving picture show you most recently watched
David Kelly replied to Jimbo's topic in General Chat
Syriana. I doubt it's anything I would ever watch again (it's took me since Easter to finish watching it because it's soooooo slow). But it's a really interesting look at how america conducts it's oil business. -
Shows him as a moron tbh as Winter is comfortably the best british football journalist about. In your opinion. You can answer t-Keiths question if you like and give us a sample of your knowledge. Why we are a laughing stock? Where do I begin Incompetent manager that no other Premiership team would ever dream of appointing Abysmal transfer policy that has seen us spunk £20m on forwards who couldn't hit a cows arse with a shovel Abysmal recruitment policy that has appointed players/coaches out of mere sentimentality This coupled with the most shambolic back four, shortest midfield and weakest forward line this side of the equator. Enough? That wasn't the question to T-Keith. How come a smart lad like you can't read ? How dare you accuse someone of dodging questions. You do it all the time. this extract is ages old, and has been done, dusted and responded. Suffice to say when people are removed from office they are usually bitter, the claim from the same Bobby Robson that we made a profit on Carl Cort tells you a lot about him at the time, and I'm not knocking him. The lesson as I said is that people thought replacing Keegan with a "tactically astute" manager would automatically improve things, the same as those who thought replacing SBR would too. You should try learning from past lessons, of our own and others, and get real. Now people like you think replacing this current board who have improved the clubs standing and position massively will also lead to automatic improvement. You are completely deluded if you think this. What do you think of the thread you started, why don't YOU comment on the facts I've posted ? I don't dodge questions if I see them, I don't trawl this board all day like Alex and others. I told you, if you want me to specifically see something, pm me or post it on howaythetoon. The question remains for t-keith, or you if you like. Somehow I don't think I will get a factual, constructive and informed response from anybody. Wasn't this actually SJH who did this though? Since the fat man has been in charge we have changed managers 5 times and fell from being the second best team in the country to one that's not a kick in arse off being relegated with a defence that is (whether you accept it or not) the butt of countless jokes. And last night we saw our lowest attendance for a first team game in 14 years. I'm sure you will go on about regular european appearances and 5th best team in the country or whatever but again I would say that is down to the foundations laid down by the previous chairman not by our current glorious leader. Read my post elsewhere that it wasn't Sir John who chose and appointed Keegan. Come back when you have read it. Although, it never ceases to amaze me why some of you people think the chairman runs the club on his own and makes every decision. You do understand he is simply the focus of the whole board, and in essence our major shareholders have been the same people since 1992 ? Or don't you. If "countless jokes" hurts your feelings, see my post yesterday which applied to all of those who don't understand that everybody makes jokes about other clubs. Don't worry about it, next week they will be jealous of us when we play in europe again. They only do it to wind you up, or maybe you attract it by telling everybody how underachieving and shit we are despite playing in europe regularly, buying major England players, and how great we really should be. Just like Shepherd does actually. Do you ever watch any football shows on the telly or listen to the radio? Do you honestly believe that when people on here say that we are being made the joke of football they are talking about a few makems or whatever taking the piss at work? We are a joke for people within the game not just the man in the street and no my feelings aren't hurt by this but I am seriously pissed off at the reasons these jokes are being made. And the majority of them stem from the fat mans "leadership"

Why will it be so difficult to find a chairman who is better than the fat man? What exactly are the achivements of the man? When he took over after Hall we had a team capable of challenging for the league (the only time in my 30 years that we have ever been able to say that) and were well on the way to producing one of the best stadiums in the league. Since he took over he has made one disasterous mangerial appointment after which has lead to our current position of the biggest joke in the premiership if not the whole of English football. He has managed to oversee the completion of the stadium but he is hardly the man responsible for it. As far as I can see his only acomplishment is the new training facilities which were long overdue and should have been in place sooner. I fail to see why it should be so hard to find a chairman who can do better than him (for considerably less money too) with the resources we have available. No doubt you will be able to name countless chairmen who over the same period as Shepherd has been in charge have led teams to lower league position and or relegation but how many of them have had his resources or pay?

Is MP3 and other downloadable music the death of the LP release?
David Kelly replied to sammynb's topic in General Chat
The worry is that people who listen to music that's on the radio day in day out are the type of people who would most likely name their favourite albums as whoevers greatest hits because they cannot be bothered to listen to the artists catalogue and discover anything they haven't already heard. These types will undoubtly utilise the oppertunity to reduce their expenditure and only download the songs they hear on the radio. I would suspect that the more casual music listener will provide the major record labels with a large portion of their revenue and because of that we may see them becoming less interested in their artists spending any time and money developing albums that will no longer sell in the quantities they previously did. This may in time see many 'artists' phasing out the album in favour of single releases. Personally I wouldn't be too concerned as the artists I listen to (such as many of those mentioned Patrokles) are generally not heard on the radio and signed to independent record lables who I would assume make almost all of their revenue from album sales and would therefor be much more resistant to change. -

That must be I have no clue about some of the things you post. I usually just keep quiet though so I don't appear to be the uneducated oaf that I am -

Make your own mind up about it tbh. Death of the author and all that I feel like that should mean something to me but it's years since I read through it Sorry, it probably doesn't. The concept of 'Death of the Author' iirc is that once a book (can be applied to films, etc.) is completed then it can take on multiple meanings given by the reader or viewer in this case. Even meanings that were never intended in the first place. It especially applies to something like 'Donnie Darko' imo. Oh I see now. Yeah I agree but it definitely can help to hear someone else's perspective with some films. 2001 is a prime example of that. The first time I watched it I didn't get it at all but Happy Face posted a link to website about it earlier in this thread and after viewing that I am watching it with a different perspective and enjoying it a lot more (although this may also have something to do with a number of things such as me knowing what to expect with it, me being older and actually giving it my full attention when I watch it). Regardless I still think the Donnie Darko website (iirc) does explain or rather expand on some things without stopping you from applying your own meanings. Also (again iirc) I'm sure the guy who made DD said he wanted the film and the website to go hand in hand so you could consider them to be a combined artistic statement. -

Donnie Darko. Tried to watch it all but I was too fucked by the time they stuck a news break in the middle. Class film though and the website (if it's still up) is well worth a look as it does help explain some stuff. -
iffffy. Only heard a couple of songs so far but I think I quite like it. I've got a hold of that Annuals album now too so I need to give that a listen as well.

I've got their album and I have to I can't make my mind up about it at the moment. Yeah, it's very much an album you have to be in the right mood for. I was thinking that. Probably have to listen to it at the right time too. I don't think it's an album to listen to while driving to work! I'd agree with that one! It's probably a very good late-night driving album. Yeah, I love listening to Yo La Tengo's And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out when I'm driving late and I thought it might have a similar effect. Roads by Portishead is without doubt the best late night driving song though. Still love 'Dummy', especially 'It Could Be Sweet'. One of the best albums ever without doubt.
