1. As I remember it, we nearly made a hash of that game because Souness completely ballsed his tactics and selection up.
2. McDonald pointed out last night that the closest Souness got to putting out a full strengh team, i.e. his team, was against Wigan away in the league cup. That speaks volumes. The problem is with "outsiders", and I include many pundits in that, is that they don't see what we do, week in, week out. They don't have to put up with the miserable, passionless, clueless perofrmances for months on end, and we are even stupid enough to pay for it. Basically, they haven't got as clue as to what is really going on. If you know nowt, say nowt, imo. 88182 Even a few of the ones who do see us tend to come out with it. Whenever I've caught John Beresford on that fuckin' shit Soccer Night, it's always been injuries, injuries, injuries. MacDonald is a pompous windbag and often talks shit but I'd rather he spoke the truth than trying not to rock the boat. Whatever people think about the Leg-ends, they'll never pussy foot round the clubs, and I respect them for that.
3. Thank you Renton, for putting it so succinctly. I was getting dizzy following the argument round in circles before then.

Alan O'Brien

Only reason he wasn't able to go on loan was because Queen of the South went out of some cup or other early and couldn't afford the wage payments. Difficult to judge what he's like as a footballer so far but from what I've seen, I have never seen anyone move so quickly over the turf.
5. Blackburn Rovers fan's view of the Souness side that capitulated 3-0 at SJP last season: http://www.brfcs.co.uk/reports/match_newcastlea.php "Pedersen is starting to look like a joke. Seriously, a pub player could have made more of an impact today." Sounds like the bleating of the more short sighted of our number about Albert Luque. The manager is the problem.
6. Hiddink did the other day..... http://www.toontastic.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=3414 82876 I realise that, but I'd like to see some quotes, rather than Oliver's word. I don't think Hiddink would be the man anyway, got enough on his plate with the Aussies.
7. When have Hiddink and Hitzfeld ruled themselves out?
8. it's because he was still on YTS form's or whatever the technicallity is these days 82661 So is Walcott though, surely? He's definitely not signed a pro contract yet.
9. Probably a 50 year old bloke tbh 80953 Well you're half right! 80955
10. Well, that's true, I think we'd all agree with that.
11. And I stand by it, because now we are fucked without him, which was always going to happen. Papering over massive cracks was all it was and it was only a matter of time for it all to go pear shaped. Surely you agree that money would and should have been much better spent elsewhere? 80181 With hindsight perhaps but who could have known Owen would have such a serious injury? Fair enough, he's injury prone but in general he's just missed the odd games here and there with muscular problems during his career. In my view, Owen is exactly the type of player we should be buying, i.e. guarenteed class, rather than pissing £5millios here and there on the likes of Milner (who is an ok player to be fair). Since we signed Shearer we haven't gone for the world class players enough, it's been a case of too many players in the £5-10million bracket who are good enough for what we want to achieve, i.e. silverware. 80191 Some of us didn't need to use hindsight. Shearer was certainly in that bracket, but he was brought in to improve a side that was already an excellent one. Owen simply turns a bad side into an average one and the problems from last season were still all too apparent. I've no problem with buying top class players, but only if we can afford it - i.e. buying them into a good side. Chelsea and Man Utd do it, because they're both loaded for different reasons. Others, and I include us in that, have to manage their money much more wisely. If we had £75m drop into our kitty tomorrow, it could help to build a formidable squad - or it could buy Ronaldinho on his own. Which would be the better option? Plenty NUFC fans laughed because Liverpool didn't want to spend a ridiculous amount on Owen and ended up with Cisse, Morientes and Crouch as their strikeforce, while we pinched Owen. Who's laughing now? - and it's not just the injury to Owen that's changed that.

13. Renton, you know as well as I do that the "Renton is mental" thing was a running joke, and I only used to say it because it used to get on your tits so badly. So don't even try that one. 79785 I know it's a running joke Gemmill, but nevertheless it seems that my pessimism was well grounded in reality. Without the signing of Owen, we would have been in the same situation as Sunderland right now, which is frankly unbelievable really. The ironic thing is I think that despite being branded an unrealistic pessimist, I never thought things could get this bad (after our spending spree). Looks like Wullie was right all along! 79800
14. Apparently for the purposes of this question Boro are included in the N.E derbies. 79128 One of them, in that case, will be Christian Ziege.
15. You're right about Papa L, I miss him. He's a good poster. 73601 I saw him in town yesterday. Just so yous know he's still alive, like.

Wullie...

Time to put a mimimum post quota on there me thinks... 67486 You mean I'll have to annoy Gemmill with my own brand of pessimism before I can use it? Oh goody. 67488 Gemmill won't tolerate any pessimism. Do you think you'll win my coveted "Most pessimistic poster" on N-O this year? 67491 Well, I'm quietly confident.
