jonas is the worst player ive seen in a newcastle shirt, at least marcelino and guivarch had the decency not to get a game and we knew we were paying a fee for them whereas a argentinian international who was supposed to be a free transfer ended up costing 5million and high wages and can neither shoot or cross a ball, pretty important for a winger. Three goals, one a glorious volley, one a 40 yard pearler, scraps, one sending off, a penalty award, a penalty miss, 2 howlers missed from 6 yards out. What more do you want? It was never going to be neat passing football with triangles all over the park in this league, with this squad and this owner. One thing annoyed me yesterday. I don't know if it happened on every corner, but Carroll kept coming short for the corners. I might be wrong but I think he's our tallest player, and whenever a corner went in, he seemed to be on the intersection of the goal line and the 18 yard box, a wasted player. Jonas had another infuriating afternoon too. He needs to watch Goal. That bit where the trainer teaches the south american lad that the ball is faster than he can ever be and passing to someone in space is preferable to running into space yourself. I think they use carroll as a decoy to be honest as he normally takes two players with him on corners as he is the tallest players and therefore leaving more room for other players to get a head on the ball. I noticed it in the ipswich game aswell where it worked perfectly for nolan to get in with the head, however could see it working better if we had ranger up front with him as opposed to on his own or with harewood who was crap yesterday and in each game ive seen him play for us.

both goals were very well taken, missed a sitter unfortunately and just missed with what would of been a great goal for the another mind but overall was very impressive for the full game and was clearly man of the match and the pass at the end was top quality

50 million only gives us 4.5million a player on average considering we need to replace 11 of them!

I know this a bad source for referring too but after reading in this weeks nuts magazine (i was bored) we have the smallest teams in the premier league and this is not helping us as either an attacking or defending unit. So we really need some height injected into the team (im not thinking crouch, all though wouldnt mind too much) but it you look at what carew done to us a couple of weeks ago at villa it shows we have nobody to deal with that sort of threat or to cause a similar type of threat themselves. I would also say the crossing ability seriously needs to be worked on if that is to be the case as no use having a 6 footer if the crosses go no where near them.

I actually like this guy he looks as though he can play a bit and is ACTUALLY a left back. He cant do no worse than charlie in that position and it means he is free to get some decent crosses in and cause an attacking menace. I think with a little time to adjust to the league and a run of games he could be our best left back for some time (not difficult really considering its been babayaro for quite a while previously to this season)

I have always been a massive fan of Alan Smith and always wanted that type of player playing for the toon, But once again Alex Ferguson got it right by selling us a player who has never recovered from the leg break he suffered and is costing us points each and every week by the lack of threat he poses up front (dont get me onto Joey Barton). Whilst I have seen a bit of Andy Carroll i like what I see and would like to see him given his chance after all he cannot do much worse than our current situation suggests. And feel now is the time for us to get some menace up front and be a bit more of an aerial threat. As for those that suggest he could not do it at Preston here is some comments from the preston manager Alan Irvine to ponder: Andy Carroll can one day pull on the No 9 jersey at Newcastle United, according to his former loan boss Alan Irvine. The Gateshead-born striker is desperate to impress new manager Kevin Keegan. Carroll might get his chance against Manchester United tomorrow, with Obafemi Martins struggling to make Keegan's squad because of an ankle problem. The 19-year-old – who returned from a six-month spell at Preston North End at the start of the month – was pulled out of Monday night's reserve game against Liverpool as a precaution. And Irvine says Carroll – who scored just once for the Lilywhites in a frustrating spell at Deepdale – has the potential to go all the way in the game. He told the Echo: "Andy's got massive potential, and I've said that to him. "At the moment, he might be a young lad who doesn't realise what he's got. "He's a fantastic shape and size, and has a terrific touch with both feet. He strikes the ball really well, and is wonderful in the air. "But he needs to properly focus on football. He needs to fully concentrate on being the best he can be. "I've had a chat with him, and wished him well. I told him how much potential I think he has, and I hope he uses a little bit of that advice. "I said to him 'you can become a great No 9 for Newcastle'. He knows all about the No 9 jersey, and his target should be to become a No 9 for Newcastle." Carroll – who struck against Juventus in pre-season – had been a regular starter under Irvine's predecessor Paul Simpson. But after Simpson's dismissal, Carroll saw his first-team opportunities limited, and the loan was not extended beyond January 1. Irvine, ironically Academy director at Newcastle when Carroll signed for his hometown club, says Carroll was a victim of circumstance. He said: "I didn't play Andy as often as he would have liked, but there's a reason for that. I had six strikers when I walked into the job, and I had to make some changes. "I knew in this transfer window it was almost certain I would lose Andy and Paul Gallagher, and I had to know who I had signed for the club. "He was a victim of those circumstances." Irvine went on to add: "It's been a test for him. You look around the Championship, and there aren't many young players playing on a regular basis. "It's a big ask. People think players playing reserve team football can go and play anywhere else, but it's not as easy as that. You must be an exceptional talent."
