  1. Czechoslovakia was Soviet rule when they rolled the tanks in, despite being a Socialist government. It still operated under the Soviet's system of economy and industry which is why Dubcek attempted his reforms. The Soviets used the Brezhnev Doctrine, which allowed them to invade any country that they thought was swaying to capitalism, as a justification for invasion. They never invaded anywhere to claim land but rather keep the satellite states they already had.

Quite possibly all true, but I wasn't aware that Afghanistan was part of either the Soviet Union or in it's sphere of influence at any time between the end of WW2 and 1979 when the tanks rolled into Kabul.

And that is a gig thats still being played out today as we speak with hundreds of UK service men and women no longer with us because of it. Geroge Bush financed, trained and armed Bin Laden in the 80s and we're paying the price for that particular foreign policy fuck up to this day.

A pox on the USA and Soviet Union

  2. I think some of us may be eating a huge slice of irony pie if he's still owner in 2 years time. Pity we'll be, at best, a solvent yo yo club with no real direction but looking at Pompey maybe we're better with the devil we know.

Does anyone really want that though?

As a football fan it should be all about the football, winning things, pride in your club, not merely ensuring the balance sheet works ahead of the team sheet.

Manageable debt with a successful team is the only way to get on in this game. No club will ever amount to anything if it doesnt spend money.

If we dont go up this season then I honestly believe this football club is destined to sink into obscurity and god knows what after that. Without the big money of the Premiership then we'll not have anything next season. We've had parachute payments and the sale of players this year while still retaining Premiership level attendances.

Next Championship season would be a whole different ball game.

No I agree with you, but our actions in the transfer window haven't really made promotion almost guaranteed as it could've done if we'd have recruited for August 2010 and not May 2010 only.

But this is the road he's taking us down and for me theres little anyone, including NUST, can do about it. Can they apply enough pressure on him to sell up if he thinks that once we're fully coming out of the recession he may get more money for the club than NUST can ever hope to raise, excellent though their intentions and actions have been so far.

  3. I don't see why any top class manager would want to work under Llambias.

I struggle to imagine anyone coming in while Ashley is here, but just about manage to, if he does like i said above and pins all the blame on Decka & Wise.

The reason you've softened is that there are some signs of green shoots and whatever we think of MA he's one shrewd fuck, he's certainly turned our finances around and next year he'll go into profit. Job done.

His few redeeming features for me have only come to light when you compare our situation to that of Liverpool, Man Utd and Pompey....he bought us with his own cash, didnt borrow a penny and he, for good or bad, attends games regularly and is a recognisable public face of the club week in, week out.

I think some of us may be eating a huge slice of irony pie if he's still owner in 2 years time. Pity we'll be, at best, a solvent yo yo club with no real direction but looking at Pompey maybe we're better with the devil we know.

For the events of last season though he's still a fuckin useless cunt

  4. I blame sky. It's just sabout to produce it's 2nd generation of fans who think they're all entitled to a completely arbitary opinion and are all entitled to voice it at the match , or to David Craig. Or their mates who treat going to the match the same as watching a match on a 37 inch plasma, something to be observed and not actively particpated in. The rest of us old fuckers have been anaesthetised into a slumber as well by anyone of a combination of events, chief of which a far as I can see is the saturation coverage of football by Murdoch in his attempt to have more influence on more households in the world than any other person who's ever lived, the fuckin cunt.

  5. Don't go to Austrailia...its full of twats from here constantly slagging this country off. Before I went I didn't realise that the worlds most fuckin annoying twats are those whose chief obsession in life is how sunny the weather is. And theres about 3 interesting things to see in the entire country.

If you want to see an interesting country buy an Amtrak pass here and fly to the USA and bum around there for a few months. Best thing I've ever done, fuckin brilliant time.

  6. :D Fuck Murray. What goes round comes round you diseased Scottish bigot.

    How ironic :)

    I'm Scottish?

Deflected as exepected. You know fine well what's ironic about your post. :icon_lol:

Well I've got no disease, what you on about now Craig?

    :)

You get the benefit of deflecting things more than Frank Lampard you anyway.

    :) keep it going man....

Well am I the one who wears the opposition shirts of teams playing Scotland. Normally I want them to win. Murray is a disgrace.

The thing is they do it just to get a reaction like this, fuck knows why you let it bother you.

Murray made the greatest ever player play some of his best tennis..fair play to him.

He'll never be forgiven by some for an of the cuff remark he made as an 18 year old......do you stand by everything you used to say at that age? :)

  7. He's gone to the highest bidder, which appears to be Wigan. Given Palace's financial state, the club who offered them the most money were always likely to get him

Mike Ashley agreed 3 long term contracts last week.....he's probably lying down in a darkened room in the Priory as we speak :)

  8. Ben Johnson he was Canadian wasn't he. He spoke like a rasta though.

Cheers for all the advice, going with the lads so chances of there being much cultural stuff done is slim, but good to know.

alex, ta very much for the offer of lending the book, but see above. ;) I'd actually quite like to go and see some of the museums and that, but I doubt it'll happen. Might pay Kadinsky a visit.

Caransa?...named after this gadgie no doubt, Maup Caransa, a big player behind the Ajax sides of the 60s & 70s:

I can remember walking past a nightclub near the red light area called Cockring

so can I...when we played Herenveen one of our lot thought it might be a good idea to try and get in there ;)

to be fair he'd been drinking Warsteiner for about 8 hours....

  11. Manchester derby the biggest? ;)

For me, and I take Stevie's points completley about Boca v River Plate (these things are entirely subjective), this is the daddy:

This is where a decade of civil war in the Balkans started, Dinamo Zagreb v Red Star Belgrade...obviously a lot more to it than football; WW 1 starting in nearby Bosnia and all the history of the peoples of the Ottoman Empire being at each others throats.....Serbia's traditional support of Russia and Marshal Tito, leader of Yugoslavia from WW 2 till his death in the late 80s....the subsequent collapse of communist power in Eastern Europe in general and the old emeneties and hatreds re surfacing....which all led to this game in 1991. The Red Star Ultras basically became the warlord Arkan's paramilitary militia " The Tigers", similarlary the Dianmo's "BBB's" (Bad Blue Boys) went off to join the Croatian army. This game kicked it all off. Couldnt find any footage of the Dinamo players having it with the Belgrade riot police, but theres a legendary shot of one of them doing a flying kick into a fully armoured goon and flattening the fucker..Bosko Balaban?

Don't know if you'd call this a "derby" (as I say very subjective) as such but there was a terrific rivalry between these clubs during the years of the Yugoslavian league and at it's culmination it kicked off a decade long civil war. Thats wat I call a derby ;)

(If anyones interested, Simon Kuper's "Football Against The Enemy" gives a very good account of what happened)

  12. I think Ashley likes someone who owes him a favour, or is grateful for the job...see also JFK. Makes them easier to manipulate, or easier to "persuade" to see things his way, accept budgets etc.

And there is this talk of a player's "comittee" (Smith,Nolan...anyone else?) Caulkin and Bird have both alluded to this, and Hughton is quoted as saying he likes to do the job with a "light touch" in the changing room.

All of which suggests to me we've got a yes man who is largely cowed by the players he's supposed to be in charge of. As someone has said we're top in spite of not because of him. So how much better could we be if we had someone else in charge?...Shearer?.....Mark Hughes?....

  13. what is the back line going to look like with s taylor and enrique injured and r taylor suspended?

    pancrate-----williamson----collocini-----kadar

i can't believe we'll win the title with that back 4

Raylor isnt suspended for the rest of the season and simpson will be back soon too

as for enrique, we have to wait and see

Danny Fox from Celtic if you beleive that nutter who runs newcastle united blog.....is he any good?...premier league player?

  14. This is canny and the best named hotel in western europe ;) :

If you want a bit of history, try a snoop around whats left of the jewish quarter in Amsterdam Sud. The Synangogue is stunning, and the Schouwburg Theatre will break your heart when they tell you that it was where they kept the jewish folk before they were put on the trains for Auschwitz.

The red light area has loads of whores and cheap dope mind...its fuckin great ;)

  15. Money making scheme:

Purchased one of these bad boys:

got tons of vinyl, a lot of it on the rare-ish side, so thought I'd get ot all backed up on to a hardrive and flog the lot for ££££s ;)

    However,

It is currently annhilating "headache" by Frank Black; the recording is beyond tinny with no depth whatsover and the stylus is just scratching the fuck out of my vinyl making the recording barely listenable B)

I realise I've gone for the cheapest possible option, has anyone else given this a go and acheived good quality recordings?...if so what kit did you use? Cheers.....

have you still got a turntable? (must have a headphones socket).

    1. get audacity off the net. its free so dont worry

    2. run a lead from your headphone socket to your pc mic input (small jackplug)

    3. run audacity. go into project and select 'new stereo track'

    4. start the record and press the record button in audacity.(make sure the input level is ok)

    5. do the same for side B

you'll have to split the tracks manually but its a piece of piss to do. make sure you use the 'export as Mp3' option when saving the individual track.

    hope this helps

edit: just remembered you'll also need to download something called the 'LAME mp3 encoder'. it explains how to do it on the audacity site. (iirc)

Still got my Technics so all is good.......all I need is a lead.I'll give that a go thanks very much mate ;)
