  1. To say that if someone bid 200mil they would be a bigger idiot that him is a bit stupid really. What if it were a very rich arab or american?

So you're saying that Newcastle United are worth 200 mill+ to someone or some collection of individuals with nothing but profit on their minds?....the thing is theres no comparable club thats been sold recently. Villa went for 62.6 million in 2006, before the credit crunch etc. We would naturally claim we are a bigger club than them, higher profile, bigger turnover, matchday revenue etc etc...but we probably don't completely dwarf Villa in those regards. Are we worth 140million more than they were before the worldwide financial crisis because we can flog more pies and shirts?...I personally don't think so. Am willing to be proved wrong though.

Thaksin Shinawtra paid 21.2mill for Man City, and Shiekh Mansour paid 170mill to Thaksin to clear their debt, along with about 50 million for his shares. The chances of a another Sheikh Mansour appearing are,if you ask me, remote to the point of virtual non existance . Does anyone want to become a club like Man City and all the hatred and jealousy that comes with that?...look at the money thyve shelled out and theyre rubbish without Tevez. Better to grow a club organically if you ask me, but am sure some will disagree with that.

Dr Gloom said that we're stuck with him until the financial situation is better and that is certainly true. The rest is just conjecture and wishful thinking. But I can't see anyone paying 200mill plus for us, sad to say.

  2. Mike Ashley will want 200mill minimum. I don't think there is anyone out there that will pay that much for Newcastle United, regardless of how much we feel the club is worth. Put sentiment aside. Think about it. If he does get that much for the club then the chances are the buyer will be a bigger fuckin idiot than he is.

  3. I want FMA out bur i find it amusing how people on here turn and blame him for everything like.

Aye he sold Carroll and didnt replace him but its the lads who go out on the pitch who are to blame. They are all professional footballers paid handsome wages. It was stoke ffs. Our poor form is the fault of the players NOT FMA.

What about the yes man he sacked Hughton for?...anything to do with him?...

  4. In the end, was it right – for Liverpool too – that Torres went?

Yes, I think so. Don’t get me wrong: he is a top quality striker who on the top of his game is the best in the world for me. Just look at some of the goals he has scored. And I have never changed my opinion on that. But for one reason or another, and there were those three ops in 18 months, he was sulking like a big kid because he felt he’d been promised quite a bit by Hodgson on the players he’d bring in but then didn’t. But we’ve brought in two quality strikers so that is a good bit of business in the end.

What do you make of the Sunderland decline from the good position we were in at the start of the year?

Well I think one of the best away performances of any time this season had to be Sundeland at Chelsea. They thoroughly deserved to win. It was three and could have been seven or eight. I know a lot of Sunderland fans were disappointed Bent went but you have Gyan who is a top quality striker, Kieran Richardson is showing us he’s the good player we knew he was and you just need to be a lot more consistent. It is a youngish team with time on its side. I spoke to Niall Quinn about this a while ago when the away form was the big worry, but you’ve now lost a couple at home. The important thing is to improve on last season and I believe you are ahead in that regard.

Did your time in the North East, not being from there, leave you with a bit of affection for Sunderland too?

No! I certainly do not have any soft spot for Sunderland. That was drummed into me in three-and-half years at Newcastle; and I am black and white through and through as far as that’s concerned and have never mellowed since I left. You have to remember also that my time there gave me my most prolific years as a goalscorer (59 in 119 games -ed) and I was proud to wear the Newcastle No 9 shirt. That said I do like big Niall but I know Steve Bruce is a Geordie at heart and deep down wants to manage Newcastle.

You’re beginning to sound more like a Newcastle supporter than Liverpool. How divided are your loyalties when they play each other?

    A draw!

    Very diplomatic.

    That’s me.

Hand on heart, can you say you never dived as a player?

I don’t think I was that kind of player. You needed a bulldozer to knock me over and a crane to get me back up again. I was a hustle bustle sort of striker, perhaps too honest in some ways, but I put it around and liked defendes to know they were going to get a hard time from me. I was the archetypal aggressive centre forward and defenders could never relax around me. If I’d tried to dive, I’d have looked a right Jessie.

Will you get to the game? How will it go?

I won’t be there as I have my show on TalkSport from 8am to noon on Saturday and Sunday. I’ll get to liste or watch somewhere though and I will say SAFC 0 Liverpool 2, one each from Carroll and Suarez. Get in!

Good lad Quinn. He's fat he's round he's worth a million pound Micky Quinn, Micky Quinn. If Liverpool play like they did the other night I think the mackems will win 2-0, nee Gerrard as well, nee Gerrard, nee good as far as the WP's are concerned.

Celtic v Rangers on today at 3pm in the Scottish League Cup Final. Divvint ignore this question people. How do you get BBC Scotland in England? Can you get it online?

Is it on bbc1 Scotland then?

If you've got sky or cable scroll through and you'll come across "BBC 1 Scotland" it's 861 on Virgin media as I've just discovered <_<

  5. I reckon Spurs will beat Real. Draw away, win at home.

Are Bale, Modric and Defoe better than Ronaldo, Ozil and Benzema?...not in my book tbh.

Real v Chelsea final I reckon....Mourinho back in London to get his 3rd european cup against his old club <_<

  6. Just listening to Mick Fitzgerald on 5live..he said Long Run broke the Gold Cup course record by 15 SECONDS!

Long Run is 6, Kauto Star and Denman are 11 which means they both smashed it too... <_<

I had 40 quid on Long Run @ 7/2....£180 off out to celebrate :icon_lol:

  7. ^ Billy Askew, Paul Sweeney

Billy Askew was a great player for Hull, just shite for us had a lot of injuries. He made his debut against Brighton and I was playing football on a field after the game, and who turns up with his Staffy Bull Terrier but Billy Askew, he'd had a shite game. "Billy ye wo magic the day like", then he started talking and I called him a mackem which he took well, but he took his dog home and had a kick about with us for 30 mins, was like playing with Pele at the time or so it felt 11 year old.

Sweeney was pony but I remember one game he was like Roberto Carlos against Derby in the ZDS, he scored to this day one of the top 5 goals I've seen at SJP.

Do you remember the goal Gazza scored against Chelsea at SJP in his last season?...beat about 4 of them before nearly taking the net out with his finish?....never even seen a recording of it since the day it went in but I'll never forget that one...

Only home game I missed that season. Think we won 3-1, and fuck knows how I know this you won't be able to google it, but Kevin Wilson, some kid with a tash scored for Chelsea.

Gazza must've put the ball through the stanchion 6 times that season, not enough words could describe how good he was.

Aye we won 3-1, had 'Bones' sent off and they had two penalties saved by Gary Kelly. Fucking awesome game. Pitch was a boggy shitpit as well IIRC.

There was a canny few sendings off that season. Game against Portsmouth I remember we had someone sent off and they did too, it was either Quinn, Dillon or Kevin Ball for them, fuck knows who for us, and they still had that wanker with the bell even then 23 years ago.

    image5n.jpg

Dillon for them, Peter Jackson for us. Full on fucking boxing match going on in the Gallowgate penalty area IIRC. Aye we did have a fair few sent off. Gazza went twice, once at QPR and once at Derby (where he kicked the shit out of their physio's bucket).

Why am I remembering all this shit? <_<

Thought it was Martin Kuhl for them...?

just googled it and as Stevie said even the fuckin internet doesn't have the answer to some of the sad shite on here :icon_lol:

because it's been confirmed on the facebook page where these piccies are coming from....I won't let the cat of the bag if someone wants to hazard a guess as to who's sharing the water with Mira and Davey....

Anth Lormor (not Howey) and Darren Jackson on the right.

No...both wrong and to be fair I don't think either played for the first team...

  10. Paul Stephenson's mullet's a bit of a burden mind ! ?

    image4zl.jpg

See how many I can get

Top Row - Wharton, Gazza, Tinnion, Stephenson, Jeff Wrightson (?), Anderson

Middle Row - nee idea, Martyn Thomas, McDonald, Whitehurst, Cunningham, Jeff Clarke, Allon, Kelly, Dekka Wright

Front Row - Bailey, Ferris, Peter, McFaul, Roeder, Davey Mac, Iain Stewart,

Is the coach on the left Colin Suggett? I think he was caretaker when McFaul got sacked.

  11. Resolution goes to UN vote at 10pm, British forces take to the sky and start bombing tomorrow.

China to veto by 22:01 ??

Surprisingly no, China and Russia didnt use their veto, so it looks very much theyre going to go for a no fly zone....to start with..... :icon_lol:

  12. Luke + Ashley Young.

With the Coles is that 8?

    Aye good lad.

Most poorly supported club to reach the European Cup/Champions League Final?

Malmo or possibly PSV, they're certainly two of the smallest cities to have a finalist...Reims is a good shout as well though...

  13. Yeah, canny recommendation that like, Leazes :D

    you got a copy didn't you ?

I was kidding, I meant the 2nd one. I haven't picked up a copy of with Clough yet although I keep meaning to borrow Midds' one as he managed to get hold of one.

it was me who told him about it and gave him the link. There are copies available. I had it in paperback originally but got a hardback copy a few years ago for about 3 quid or something. I've just looked for the Gary Imlach and there are loads on ebay.

The "With Clough" book is extensively quoted in "Why England Lose" http://www.amazon.co.uk/Why-England-Lose-p...d/dp/0007301111 when they discuss transfers. Taylor identified the talent mostly and Clough made the call as to when their time is up etc...Kenny Burns was an overweight drunk gambler at Birmingham City. C & T turned him into a European Cup winner and footballer of the year in 78 or 79, about 6 months before they sold him to Leeds for a huge profit and he didnt acheive anything in his career after that. The book compares C & T at Forest very favourably with the regime at Lyon in France, who until recently had been among the best teams in Europe for the best part of a decade.

  14. At the risk of creating a quote-a-thon from Leazes and his band of fellow gibbering nutters, theres an interview with Olivier Bernard in the Journal, according to this article from TOTT, but I couldnt find it on the ic newcastle website. Anyway he has some very interesting (although wholly unsurprisisng) opinions about the what happened at the club in the aftermath of the SBR regime. TOTT won't let me copy and paste it either, petty fuckers :D

    http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/main/s70/st167040.htm

Just to say, it's 8 years ago today since Olivier played probably the biggest game of his career in the San Siro. Changed days now like.... :D

  15. Alex Ferguson would've played against (and been marked by, pardon the pun) McNamee, wouldn't he?

McNamee came from Celtic I think.

He started at Celtic and went to Hibs where we got him from in 1966.....Ferguson was playing for St Johnstone and Dunfermline around then so he very likely did play against each other....whether either were scared of each other I think it would be difficult to say....

Alex Ferguson, in his book, says that McNamee was built like a man-mountain and after one scuffle/disagreement they had, he sneaked out of the ground because he thought McNamee was waiting for him.

This is when he played for Rangers, or Dunfermline as PaddockLad says, I think McNamee was playing for Hibs at that time.

Anyway, this is the book, which is very good, one of the best.

    he mentions him here

Good read that Leazes....and I read the fergie book yonks ago, but can't remember much about it, maybe time for a another look at it.

The best book I've read about football, actually one of the best books I've ever read is this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Father-Other-Worki...s/dp/0224072676

Gary Imlach used to do the American Football on Ch4. It's like a tribute to his old man, who played for Forest when they won the cup in 59 and for Scotland at the world cup in 58. Think it won the "best sports book award" a few years back.

  16. Alex Ferguson would've played against (and been marked by, pardon the pun) McNamee, wouldn't he?

McNamee came from Celtic I think.

  17. true faith mentioned this on Monday:

United should be aware of the rumours circulating about why Ranger wasn’t even on the bench on Saturday. If true, the warmth and encouragement to him from the SJP stands will evaporate.

    http://www.true-faith.co.uk/tf/editorials....72?OpenDocument

He's done time and was bombed out of Southampton because of it. There were issues last season (he basically disappered for most of the second half of the season from the squad) Beginning to think he may be more trouble than he's worth.

Sorry, but do you have anything else other then his past crimes and some shit rumour to go on?

    No I don't m'lud :D

It's an internet forum, it's designed to circulate unsubstantiated rumour and tittle tattle. Also one eyed and completely uninformed opinion, coupled with bigoted sweeping generalistions. Glad to be of service
