  1. Been done to death but there should have been a plan in place to replace a man that age. And if that Wolves game was so instrumental in his going how come he didn't go until after our (almost customary, under SBR) bad start to the season? The whole way it is portrayed so often is incorrect - i.e. ungrateful Newcastle fans forced out an honourable gentleman and subsequently got what they deserved. The reality was more like the regime probably knew he'd lost the players and (to an extent) the fans. We were pretty insipid at times the year we came 5th and the players looked like they'd lost some of the belief in the manager. However, I think the board were a little too concerned with looking bad and getting rid of Robson in the summer and pounced on what they saw as an opportunity to sack him when we had a bad start the following season. The lack of foresight in that move led to Souness coming and all the good work of the previous 5 years being undone.

Well you've just subsequently answered that yourself...I was just repeating what he said in his book.He felt that we undermined him that day, and Shepherd was doing the same behind the scenes, because he didnt want to seen to be the one who shot Bambi as it were.

As you say. done to death, but I think all our subsequent problems can be traced back to August bank holiday monday 2004.

  2. We needed to follow Liverpool's lead.

Which was?....appointing Benitez or some other exspenive foreign coach?...not having a dig I'm just not sure what you're getting at with this.

Anyone who walked out at the end of the last home game v Wolves in 03/04 before the team had done a lap of honour undoubtedly put a nail in Robson's SJP coffin, he says so in his autobiography anyway. He felt very let down by us that day.

  3. Half the country call our relationship with Sir Bobby in question anyway, saying we hounded him out etc etc.

    Well we did....

Speak for yourself mate....you're guilty of doing what the press do and lumping us all in together as we're the fuckin borg from star trek or something and we all think exactly alike.

Some wanted rid of Robson, chiefly Freddy fuckin Shpeherd.

Some were quite vocal on this and Shpherd listened to them and sacked him without having a successor lined up.

As far as I could make out most were a bit on the diasappointed side at finsihing 5th and not winning the UEFA cup. And there were concerns about the behaviour of the players. But wasnt the best, most qualified man to turn that round already in the job?

I didn't, but I clearly remember coming onto Newcastle messageboards and people claiming we should get him out....

Our main error was who we replaced him with...A cardinal sin..

anyone who takes any notice of the drivel on them mate needs their head looking at... ;)

  5. Paddocklad, I reckon if we were actively trying to sell Carroll, there is no way we could have got £35m for him. Liverpool and Spurs were chasing him and if they hadn't been able to match his valuation (in the case of Spurs) then they wouldn't have sold him. I guess there is an intention to sell any of our players if their asking price is met.

On that note, if they intended to sell him in the summer anyway and they knew he would not be playing many games in the second half of the season then they knew he wasnt going to be much use to us. By the summer Liverpool would have spent the Torres money this last window, so the opportunity would have gone.

That Best hat-trick as you say was a double-edges sword but I think the circumstances of the transfer market with abramovich's injection of finance drove the decision. Whether an assessment of Carroll's fitness from the Swedish specialist also played a part, we'll have to wait and see.

The thing is some on here were predicticing his sale despite all the assurances issued via Pardew. I thought as soon as Joorabchain was mentioned in connection with NUFC that it could only be facilitate Carrolls sale. He's hardly likely to be concerened with Routlegde going back to QPR . He's a "superagent", only concerened with the top of the market. These paracites make sure deals go through, and they make sure theres a lot of money involved for everyone, including themsleves. The Carroll transfer was always going to happen, but you're probably correct with the timing of it being inspired by Chelsea's move for Torres.

But if Ashley had said "no" yet again on deadline day, did Liverpool have a plan b?...or armed with the knowledge that they had 50million swimming around did Ashley just bide his time and make a killing when he knew they were desperate to get someone in? Karl Henry can throw some light on this:

Liverpool sold Torres for £50 million to Chelsea, but Henry explained that fee would have been greater had Newcastle asked for an even higher price. The Liverpool owner insists the eventual valuation for Carroll was only important in relation to the fee recouped for Torres.

"The fee for Torres was dependent on what Newcastle asked for Carroll," Henry told The Guardian. "The negotiation for us was simply the difference in prices paid by Chelsea and to Newcastle.

"Those prices could have been £35 million [for Torres] and £20 million [for Carroll], 40 and 25 or 50 and 35. It was ultimately up to Newcastle how much this was all going to cost. They [Newcastle] made a hell of a deal. We felt the same way."

Torres threw in his tranfer request almost a week before the end of the window, which means Chelsea had made their move in the week before that. So we knew about the bid for Carroll I'd assume a fortnight (certainly at least 7 days) before the deal was closed. And we knew the size of the fee being payed for Carroll then too. I think its inaccurate to say all this happened on the 31st of January. There was plenty of time to identify a replacement and bring him in, another agent would've facilitated that too, had there been any intention on Ashley's part to do so. As I say its what normal clubs do, bring a replacement in. A replacement who would've been playing and possibly winning the game for us at Blackburn yesterday.

A lot of ifs. But we're going nowhere without a cutting edge up front and could possibly be going backwards. 5 points clear of 18th as we speak. But Ashleys has stripped our greatest asset away with no intention of replacing him, all to increase any profit/get his money back.

  6. If we go down, or even struggle to avoid relegation, Pardew will be judged by the results that led to either scenario. If you think about it, his posistion is virtually untenable. The difference between him and KK is that KK had (some may say misguided) principles about things like this. Pardew is nothing but a patsy for Ashley's way of running the club. He wandered in front of us at Fulham the other night to get to the dugout with fans behind the goal shouting "puppet Pardew" at him....he just kept his head down and politely clapped the fans. Silly fucker.

  7. The Carrol situation is irrelevant as he would not have been fit anyway.

Why does this dribble keep getting spouting?

'The Carroll situation' is having a negative effect on the our performance because we sold him without any plan for replacing him before the end of the window.

For me the thing that bothers me most is that we didn't get another striker in regardless of Carroll's situation.

I agree we already needed another striker, it doesn't bother me more though, since having Carroll and no one else is better than having no one at all.

Surely though the club, or at least Pardew, should have had targets in mind as a partner/replacement for Carroll.

This is what confirms my belief that selling Carroll so late in the window without replacing him was always the intention of the board.Doesn't bode well for any future transfer windows in which Ashley is involved in my opinion.

Nail on the head that like......its widely claimed he was being offered to clubs well before and for the duration of the window so its pretty plain there were no plans to bring a replacement in. Somebody on here said that we may all regret Best's hatrick v West Ham and I think whoever said it has been proven correct.

There shouldve been a new striker leading the line yesterday at Blackburn. Thats what normal football clubs do. They dont replace the best young striker in England with a 34 year old fat bloke who nobody else wanted and who is only fit for the bench. And we only got him because of Shola's injury.

  8. Someone I spoke whos bank underwrote our bid told me if we lost you are looking at a 1bn law suit.

eh?...THFC will sue the Olympic Legacy quango type thing for 1billion they plainly don't have?....or sue West Ham?...ditto....

and if you're so anti the move to Stratford why the hostility towards Brady and what you feel she said to scupper Levy's plans?

you want to make you're mind up mate...isnt it just the case that Levt can't afford a top 5 squad and a new stadium?

  9. What now for the WHL development Danny?.....what are the "planning issues" that are causing the problems?...was Levy "planning" to have more cash for it than he's got?....

Levy himself said that the redevelopment of the the WHL site is no longer considerable.

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to Herts they go.....

Fuckin hell theyve bought up every shithole/bombsite/ruin within a 3 mile radius of WHL...wonder who'll be keen on taking that lot off their hands?....the "stars" of my big fat gypsy wedding spring to mind ;)

  11. Bernard was injured for his entire second stint with us when we got him on a free wasn't he? Seems we were already in this market, unfortunately. People don't seem to be able to link the two though, because Ashley came in and at first spent money, so when he stopped, it appears to the untrained eye that he is the one responsible for us scraping the barrel for players.

Yeah but that was Roeder trying to get cover for left back, something we havent had for about a decade.

It wasnt as a result of selling the clubs best young player 2 hours before the transfer window closed after having him up for sale for the preceading 31 days. I accept that Carroll more than likely wanted to go in the end, but Ashley doesnt really create an employment atmosphere that inspires much loyalty or hope for the future, regardless of where you're born.

I'd say that this team play with more loyalty and passion than any I've seen in my adult life.

Can't argue with that, but it appears to come from within the changing room rather than from above, which is the case at most clubs I imagine.

We'll see if Barton signs a new contract. That would send a huge signal to the fans that he's in this with the rest of us (as much as a non local player can be anyway) If he stalls and hedges his bets then we'll have a problem. He won't be the last to walk/be sold.

You don't like Ashley? Tell me more..

    EVERY FUCKING THREAD MAN!

Is that just aimed at me specifically or at certain other board members as well? :(

I make about 4 posts a week, if thats too many for you there is always the ignore button.

Or theres NO, which is a haven for the type of freedom of speech and moderation policy you appear to be advocating here. Either way, I hope you have a pleasant Sunday

  14. Don't really know anything about him, but colour me intrigued.

Why did Palmeiras let him go?

    Wiki no say :(

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ewerthon

looks like hes scored a lot of goals at the clubs hes played at in Europe but not a lot of football since 2007...less than 50 league games at 3 different clubs and he was released in January from his latest one....he's a fuckin crock by the sounds of it, but thats the market Ashley's got us into

  15. I almost spent 150 quid on the train today to go to the match....have changed jobs this week so its all been a bit mad and I didnt bother in the end...dont know whether to be disgusted or delighted :(

I knew the game was on at the local Labour Club so went up there....but the winds blew the fuckin dish off the roof so have watched 2 games of rugby instead :friends:

One question for those who were there....was it better than Roy Aitken's debut?

  16.

Cos it shows the 2 best cities in the world side by side, and for all the cities they could have chosen for the advert they chose ours over the more ''fashionable'' cities the media appears to be obsessed with.

But then I wouldn't expect a mong like you to understand that. Get back to your Go Compare adverts.

Fair one, but what as the Tyne Bridge got to do with the launch of a satellite tv channel showing American drama?

  17. Why are we blaming Carrol again?

Because he agreed to the transfer?

Irrelevent....theres no way he was going to say no.....the world and his wife can see we're going nowhere under Ashley and hes only got one career.

Don't blame him, he's a player.Regardless of where hes from, they never have the level of loyalty that the fans have and he's not been all over the press saying how much he loves the club etc....certainly not as much as Torres has.

A bid of 35 million was too good to turn down for Ashley, irrelevent of if we brought anyone in.....another gamble, thats his nature...we've seen it countless fuckin times...

  18. Suppose Carroll passes his medical....how many players have pulled out of a big money deal at that stage because he doesnt want to let the fans of the selling club down?

If this falls through its for a medical reason...hes at the Liverpool training ground having the fuckin thing as we speak ffs...

  19. Sturridge of Chelsea to Bolton?

Elmander plays out of his skin for 3 months with his contract running out at the end of the season?....that spells disaster. He's a fuckin fraud.

  20. So we laughed when you went down? Who cares?

You lot dedicated two fanzines to "lets all laugh at Sunderland" when we got relegated, and you think what we did was small time? How about going into the away end in the 80's to laugh at us when we got relegated? Taking the time to make songs like Dirty Monkey Mackems AND when you reached the FA Cup final in 98, giving one of our then players a shirt to wear with "Sad Mackem Bastards" on the front. :)

It works both ways, don't get all high and mighty.

30 seconds into one of the greatest nights in your clubs history against Barcelona in the late 90's, which club were you singing about? It wouldn't happen to have been your nearest and not so dearest rivals would it?

It might have been, or it might have been to beat the shit out of the those assembled there? (not condoning that myself)....

Crack, banter and passionate local feelings are one thing, unbridled hysteria as if you'd acheived something for yourselves is quite another. Again...what are you doing on here?
