I didn't say that, just that there is no magical cut-off date where we need to spend the money or be stung with a huge tax bill. If anything, keeping the 'profit' fully in this accounting year makes perfect sense as the club/company get to utilise past year tax losses to ensure that the exceptional profit this year doesn't attract a massive tax bill and the tax losses aren't lost. I know that you understand the big difference between cashflow and profits in football clubs and how the treatment of payer sales/purchases affects this. In short, an accounting year will have no bearing on how much of the Carroll money we spend/lose. sarcasm is a form of wit..... I'm one of the few people who said, at the time, that allowing Souness to sell and buy in the manner he did was financially bad for the club and would have longer term repercussions, I'm not specifically talking about any one player ie Owen, but I AM also including the sales of Bellamy and Robert both for playing reasons and also for the fees that were got for both of them. I understand exactly what you are saying, but my point is that under Mike Ashley, we are in a decline and are accepting lower standards than ought to be the case, we have to keep pace with the other top clubs, if we don't attempt to, we only fall further behind. I agree with most of that, excpet I don't think we have been in decline this season (on the pitch at least). However, to go from that to the Carroll money disappearing down a black hole before the transfer window opens is a big leap! Come the end of August you may be right, and I doubt we'll spend £35m but hopefully we don't have to and we get some more Tiote style gems and build the quantity as well as the quantity of the squad. Time will tell

Wrong I'm afraid. The Carroll sale will contribute £35m to the overall profit/loss in the accounts. Any money spent on new players will contribute to the overall profit/loss in the accounts over the next few years (depending on length of contracts etc). Even if we were to sign someone now for £30m and have his contract start today (don' even know if that would be allowed with transfer windows) then at most there would be 6 weeks worth of the money spent showing in the accounts this year. As we've made significant losses in the past few years we will have brought forward tax losses to utilise against any profit this year. If we're looking at reduced losses or even profits in the next few years, then now is probably a good time to have a whacking great profit so Mike is probably quite keen to realise it

Handed my notice in from my last job on my bosses last day before Christmas last year. Felt so good fucking up her early holiday by making her deal with employment agencies

For anyone asking can it be all bad...... All of our away contingent will be forced into South Wales TWICE. Think on that. Noe I have to live down here so it will make it easier to get to a few games, just remember to get the jabs first

Had my holiday cancelled. Should have been sat on a plane today going to Cancun. Booked Aruba instead in 3 weeks.

Funny how the top teams who 'always get these decisions' don't actually benefit from them at all. Although what it doesn't tell you is how these decisions actually impact games, e.g that penalty swung the momentum firmly into Man Utd's favour but has not impact on the table comparative

If Adidas are ditching us what a money spinner it would be for their last home shirt to be a re-release of the 95-97 shirt

The San Shearo was the Mirror headline Was a portuguese ref wasn't it who kept giving their portuguese winger anything and everything. It is no coincidence btw that our shirt that season was fucking class and so were we. Our shirts since then have been shite, the team likewise

I forgot a couple... Saw Lolly on the Tube Removed a group of loud racist business men from a restaurant on the request of Alan Robson Had the pleasure of working the bar and keeping it open for Frank Clarke's party until 5am whilst he played guitar. Got £50 tip plus as many drinks as I wanted for the pleasure

Here goes..... (1) Peter Stringfellow used to date a bird called Helen Benoist. She lived on my street, was good friends with my sister and knocked me back when I was 10! Rejected for that mullett man! (2) Had Lousie Nurdings mobile number when I worked in Next and she ordered some furnture. Don't think I was supposed to take it out of the shop, but she did hand it to me so technically it was mine (it went to voice mail when I tried ringing it. Bitch. Also had the number of the guy from Space, tiny chap he is. Not as impressive. (3) Was on Ghost Train with Nobby the Sheep when they did it from Mannors car park in the Toon (4) My Drama teacher dated Mark Knoppflor and the song Romeo and Juliet was written for her (she married a bloke who would become my head teacher and looked like a toad) (5) My dad designed the green quadrant of the Metro Centre and has had a cup of tea with Axel Rose! (not related) (6) Met David Baddiel in the Oxfam shop in Hexham (7) My granda worked with Jackie Milburn (8) Saw Lionel Perez at SJP, threw an orange to him and he dropped it. doh!

Normally around an hour each way along the motorway. Currently 250 miles so up at half 2 on a Monday am, stay in a hotel till Thursday and drive back Thurs evening. It sucks

A better indicator is to leave your house five minutes late to catch a bus/train and run to catch it. If you make it and don't feel like keeling over you're probably alright

It says I'm healthy. I know that I should lose between 7 and 14 lbs of fat and replace it with lean muscle to be at a real healthy level. BMI is a pile of wank and should not be used to measure 'healthiness' - Johnny Wilkinson would be classed as obese, as would have Shearer in his prime going of BMI. Disappointed with the NHS for promoting it.

Back to the original question..... Don't wardens have to put the ticket on your front windscreen for it to be legal? Unless there are signs notifying you of cameras being used to detect parking violations the picture would be invalid to catch you for a fine. This was certainly the case in Dipperville a few years back, it may vary from council to council though

When I was a bairn I had a cunning plan.... Photocopy your birth certificate. Stick a small piece of paper over the date of birth AND the date the certificate is signed, photocopy again. Write your date of birth on this photocopy and add a date of signature. Fold the paper to put creases over the dates. Photopcopy again. Fold the paper and stick in your wallet. Next get a railcard and use this fake date, they never used to ask for prove of D.O.B. And there you go, two pieces of ID which may or may not work. Mine worked a treat, one of my mates didn't as he forgot to change the date that the certificate was signed. Muppet.

When it comes to the crunch though how many people who remember the 80s and early nineties actually vote Tory? There is a lot of pent up hatred out there. I don't think The People's Dave is a particularly attractive candidate for PM (not that Gordy is the poster boy mind). Is there an Obama character out there for us? Where is the White (or Black/Asian/Whatever) Knight?

Shame that. I'm still banned from a Liverpool newsagent for not signing a 'Free Michael Shields' petition when he got sent down.
