I agree but I'd guess a neutral would say we had Ginola and Robert who could be defined as divers/professional without the benefit of black & white eyes - or even Shearer. Looking back in history Leeds under Revie and the 80s Liverpool team were both teams full of cunts as well so you can't play the modern/foreign card that easily either. I think he'd been briefed to be very strong on the 8 game mantra - maybe they think this will focus everybody for the task in hand which I agree with. He hinted that the future was "up to those in charge" which I think leaves room for him to stay. I think if it works well and we do stop up, even Ashley would be hard pressed to be stupid enough to "get rid" of Shearer. He may be relying on Shearer being forthright in insisting the job is finished but even then the negative swing of him leaving would be bad business.

Ashley is a reactive gambler imo - he takes decisions on the throw of a dice which is why "long term plans" has always been bollocks. In September there was no good reason as far as he was concerned to choose Keegan over Wise as he'd convinced himself the structure would work. I think he has now woken up to relegation and thrown the dice again without much thought.

If it wasn't the plan for him to go and it is at Shearer's request then that for me shows that Ashley has finally realised what shit we are in in having to change his plans. It also suggests they want Shearer for longer than this rescue mission.
