  1. Should have been September the 1st not April the 1st - 7 months too late.
  2. Just got up and heard this news. I feel a mixture of too little, too late and cynicism with a spine tingle of anticipation mixed in. If we do stay up what happens then? - are we supposed to be happy going back to Kinnear or even Steve Bruce after having Shearer? If we go down anyway I don't think it will ruin Shearer for the fans but it might have an affect on him to the degree he would be reluctant to try again in better times in the future. I think its a huge gamble but at the same time an "obvious" one. A day of SSN mongness awaits - working from home due to expected riots and missing the fun that brings has its advantages.
  3. I only really add to threads like this when I feel connected yo the person - I absolutely loved Angel and am shocked and saddened by this news. RIP.

Not many companies would overlook a claim involving adult films though. (I know its not real porn but the point stands)

    1. Claiming a TV subscription is wrong imo. 2. Employing family members as "researchers" or whatever the job title fiddle is is wrong. 3. the second home thing is wrong. 4. The husband of a home secretary who has an over-zealous anti-porn agenda being caught watching some (however tame) is funny.
  6. I think the big question for me led by HF's analysis over the last couple of months is why there has been a big push to getting everything part of ths ~£100m loan owed to Ashley himself by the holding company. The point about counting the "full" value of things like Xisco's fee rather than his true worth makes sense but I'm beginning to think its part of a bigger overall ploy. I have no idea (I'll admit) into how administration would facilitate this cunning plan but I have no doubt if theres some sly accounting trick to it all then the twat will have no hesitation in doing it. I'd also say all the speculation reminds me of the stuff that he was looking for a buyer pre last summer - vehemently denied but suspiciously accurate.
  7. When we went to PSV in 97 we didn't have tickets as just after booking flights, the club announced it was an official trip only job (Dutch police - fucking lie). Me and a mate got tickets off a tout in the main stand and found ourselves next to a lad from Utrecht who had come to see us on an always liked us basis. Since then he's become quite a good friend and as well as him having come over for a few of our games we've been across to Utrecht a couple of times. As part of that I've seen Utrecht play 3 or 4 friendlies. In the dim distant past when I was a student I also saw Sheffield United play Bournemouth (mate was a Blade) and also saw Bradford play the Manc Cunts in the league cup.
  8. Read a comment on the SMB the other day that 6 of the team that played at Man City played in the 15 point season - sums it up perfectly.
  9. I think it's camp gays that "frighten" straight men - no matter how intellectually I state my tolerance I think at an instinctive level a lot of blokes (including me) find feminised men a bit unnatural. I don't really like that word as its a bit too political and I believe the concept of "unnatural" is wrong but it still seems like the right word.
  10. I used to work for the same consultancy as a gay bloke who was Irish and had a black boyfriend - he worked full time for Soutwark council who absolutely loved him as he ticked 3 boxes at once (as well as knowing what he was doing).
  11. Agree - I was actually quite surprised when I read Bolam was born in Sunderland - he wasn't "real" mackem to me.
  12. Probably my favourite comedy line of all time. The only thing that slightly spoils it for me is the complete lack of any genuine north-easterners - Bewes aside who did a fine job, the other actors hardly even make a token effort to sound local - Brian Glover being a good example in the classic one about the England match. .
  13. The only way to really hurt people like that would be to take all his money off him. He can afford new windows.
  14. His evidence in the court case was revealing - it really showed that Hall and him just saw fans as open wallets. Without getting all LMish I can see parallels in the regimes of Hall with Fletcher and Ashley apart from the key measures of competence and ambition. I think his statement in the OP proves that its better to be run by cunts who have a clue (including understanding the fans even if they don't like them) rather than cunts who don't.
  15. He might have saved the club but he was a complete cunt who despised fans - sorry if I don't join in the arse-licking.
  16. I pass the stadium every day and it's well on its way - cancelling at least that now would be pretty daft. I agree on cutting the shit sports though.
  17. That Live Aid type thing for the G8 a couple of years ago (I forget the title) was a classic - the tickets were free but there was a huge fuck off VIP area in front of the stage just for corporate guests.
  18. Master of the mullet but apart from this? I told you it's irrational. I think it stems from the match against Holland at Italia 90 tbh. Obviously didn't care much for Rijkaard either for much the same reasons. So you hate a player because he got spat at? He did take being German if you know what I mean to a whole new level in that match.
  19. Some of his barbs show his heart is in the right place. I often feel like a traitor working for a bank given some of my anti-capitalist leanings - I've just agreed to work from home for 2 days next week to avoid the protests in the city but part of me would like to join them
  20. I haven't seen any let-up in that tbh - I think its an excuse for increased caution - not necessarily a bad thing of course.
  21. See I agree totally with this. Until it all started to get silly last Autumn, I didnt pass loads of houses up for sale due to repossession. I know a wide range of people from various backgrounds and wasnt aware of toxic debt. I wasnt even aware of job losses until after it went tits up. So who borrowed all the toxic debt????? Parky If it wasnt the average joe in Britain, then I see no reason why people wont carry on as before when credit frees up. I know people had lots of personal debt, but virtually everyone I know would class this as managable debt. Very confused on who has fucked up. Property prices and job losses in the US were the root cause - banks decided that asset backed securities raised on mortgages were "worthless" which caused a stampede of selling. People like Northern Rock had both deals based on this US stuff and had too many people on dodgy ground here. Again I'd argue the only good reason that property priced fall is confidence.
  22. As I said before we (investment bank) would have made a profit last year but for LB and Iceland - I see no reason why we won't make a profit this year. Lehmann Brothers? Yeah it cost the bank as a whole (I work for the London branch) about 1bn euros - if the US government had bailed them out as they did with AIG etc we'd have been okay.
  23. As I said before we (investment bank) would have made a profit last year but for LB and Iceland - I see no reason why we won't make a profit this year.
  24. Its a strange one - obviously people are hurting though job losses which is real but I still feel it's largely a confidence issue in terms of banks and stock markets. If the toxic assets are covered by the government then the banks really have no excuse but to lend (to credible people/business).
