  1. He might have saved the club but he was a complete cunt who despised fans - sorry if I don't join in the arse-licking.
  2. I pass the stadium every day and it's well on its way - cancelling at least that now would be pretty daft. I agree on cutting the shit sports though.
  3. That Live Aid type thing for the G8 a couple of years ago (I forget the title) was a classic - the tickets were free but there was a huge fuck off VIP area in front of the stage just for corporate guests.
  4. Master of the mullet but apart from this? I told you it's irrational. I think it stems from the match against Holland at Italia 90 tbh. Obviously didn't care much for Rijkaard either for much the same reasons. So you hate a player because he got spat at? He did take being German if you know what I mean to a whole new level in that match.
  5. Some of his barbs show his heart is in the right place. I often feel like a traitor working for a bank given some of my anti-capitalist leanings - I've just agreed to work from home for 2 days next week to avoid the protests in the city but part of me would like to join them
  6. I haven't seen any let-up in that tbh - I think its an excuse for increased caution - not necessarily a bad thing of course.
  7. See I agree totally with this. Until it all started to get silly last Autumn, I didnt pass loads of houses up for sale due to repossession. I know a wide range of people from various backgrounds and wasnt aware of toxic debt. I wasnt even aware of job losses until after it went tits up. So who borrowed all the toxic debt????? Parky If it wasnt the average joe in Britain, then I see no reason why people wont carry on as before when credit frees up. I know people had lots of personal debt, but virtually everyone I know would class this as managable debt. Very confused on who has fucked up. Property prices and job losses in the US were the root cause - banks decided that asset backed securities raised on mortgages were "worthless" which caused a stampede of selling. People like Northern Rock had both deals based on this US stuff and had too many people on dodgy ground here. Again I'd argue the only good reason that property priced fall is confidence.
  8. As I said before we (investment bank) would have made a profit last year but for LB and Iceland - I see no reason why we won't make a profit this year. Lehmann Brothers? Yeah it cost the bank as a whole (I work for the London branch) about 1bn euros - if the US government had bailed them out as they did with AIG etc we'd have been okay.
  9. As I said before we (investment bank) would have made a profit last year but for LB and Iceland - I see no reason why we won't make a profit this year.
  10. Its a strange one - obviously people are hurting though job losses which is real but I still feel it's largely a confidence issue in terms of banks and stock markets. If the toxic assets are covered by the government then the banks really have no excuse but to lend (to credible people/business).
  11. Brendan Foster? Kenny Burns. Frank Worthington. Carlton Palmer.
  12. The ones that rebel yes (Thank the lord) - those that don't do follow the prescribed life course in general.
  13. I'm positive a lot of women in their twenties don't give a moments thought to getting a screening....heck the government won't fund screenings if you're under 25. I know there's a debate over the validity of a test up to that point, but I imagine a lot more 25's and over have put in for one now. If i felt a bump in my nads I'd go to the doctor, if i couldn't feel my nads, I doubt I'd be pro-active about it, I'd wait until I felt something was wrong. I know people getting sponsorship for Cancer Research too that weren't planning to until they watched Jade's story on Living. All credit to her and them for that. Fair enough - I just thought that girls would be made aware in schools these days - especially with the HPV vaccine. Of course I'd guess that those from strict religious background of all types might miss out on info but I accept that culturally they'd be at less of a risk given generally less active sex lives.
  14. This stuff about her raising awareness about screening is getting to me - are there really women who don't know about it? This is going to sound horrible but what the hell - if such ignorance does exist should we be as sympathetic as "normal" if a case is missed throught said ignorance?

    The ship

On individual policies yes but it's fair comment to accuse the Tories for a sea change in social attitudes - of course Labour should be called on not fixing them but that doesn't negate the point. I'd say its paralleled by some of our problems being over-expectation to some degree which is a legacy of Keegan's first spell as manager.
  16. Both parasites served up for the cretinous millions by a complicit media.
  17. He tried to do what Hall did but wasn't as rich or as big a cunt - he ended up taking a seat on the board (for no gain) iirc.
  18. This is why we'll go down in my view - they can try like this against Man U and Arsenal but will play like they did at Hull when we play Stoke etc. No way Martins should take pens either - he lives by instinct and that has no place when it come to pens imo.
  19. Expanding on what Alex said in reply I'd say the cherry picking of biblical morality which is based on the general morality of the society I referred to above is what makes religion and/or God unneccesary. I fully accept that some people exist that are so convinced by religion that they reject this idea entirely and go as far as to say that without God they'd murder etc but I think they are the very people who should be "rescued". I think if more people were taught how man is a social animal and how all societies have had the same general morality without rference to their particular brand then we'd have more chance of the decent society you and I both want. Forgiveness is a very human emotion and of course I think its good - I just think reconciliation with other humans is infinitely more important that with a God.
  20. You can't beat the timing of being adopted by the Roman empire who ruled the most infuential part of the world at the time - its all accidents of history. I suppose you could argue that it was a cunning plan on God's part but for other accidents affecting other parts of the world.
  21. Just for a laugh I'd love to see the guidelines used for Football fans to be applied to the public at large including Muslims - I think we'd actually see a revolution
  22. The crusades were all about religion - Europe didn't care what the Muslims were doing (see invasion of Spain) until they invaded the "Holy land" - it then became a christian duty based on Papal edict to save it from infidels. Again I'd question "echoed by the bible" - certainy the OT is an awful document morally and while JC did preach some good stuff he also preached a lot of nastiness - particulary the bits about abandoning family to follow him and how the only way to heaven was through him - probably the most offensive notion to me (ie that being good is useless without worship). I'd also point out the correlation between intensity of faith and crime rates based on states in the US - it actually has more to do with poverty but it does show that religion doesn't stop people from being sinful.
  23. After the debacle last time around, I've just decided to get a ticket off a tout for Wembley (as I did for Twickenham) - they may be scum but the only difference between them and Ticketmaster is the word "official".
  24. It depends - the nostalgia for eras like the 50s forget the homophobia, racism and sexual hypocrisy which were rife - in those areas I think today's society is a lot more moral. You could also argue for the increase in volunteer work and other charitable giving as modern life gives more free time/disposable income. I've also seen figures that show more murders and violent crimes a hundred years ago than now - maybe the statistic collection is suspect but the idea of some utopia at some point in the past is an exaggeration.
  25. Particular strain of magic mushrooms according to something I saw.
