The thing is though, pasta is such a minor part of proper Italian food. It's usually eaten as a small course between your antipasti and your main and it's a tiny amount and entirely optional. It's only us daft cunts that pile it up on a plate and eat it as the whole meal.

I'm sure you're right. What's your favourite Italian dish?

Googled antipasti and a typical example is cured meats, olives and cheese. Basically not even a dish, just a shit throw in. I'm sure if they did cook them though they'd through the 70s spice rack at it.

‘Googled antipasti’

Arrabiata (for your spice needs)
Ribollita
Arrancini
Caprese
Panzanella
Caponata
Rissotto
Puttanesca
Pizza

etc etc

Italian cuisine is one of the greatest. Basil, olive oil, garlic, some of the finest cheeses, breads and desserts. Not to mention their coffee and red wine. What’s not to like?

Basically all of those dishes. Do they grow coffee beans? I love red wine, literally never bought an Italian one.

And both are healthier vehicles for flavour than pasta. That's my point really. It's shit value for what it delivers. Starchy and tasteless

Fair to say if I'd seen you moaning about the price of pasta I'd have been less inclined to take your "miserly Scots" dig on the chin.

I made some cinghiale in umido with pappardelle last week. Nice and spicy. Had a bottle of Barolo with it.

Just the ordinary food for plebs though

I don't hold it against you mate. Sausages and sauerkraut must get repetitive
