Newcastle starlet Andrew Carroll is set to celebrate his promotion to the first team by penning a new long-term contract.

The young striker is the latest product of Newcastle's academy - which is now one of the most productive in England.

The Gateshead-born 18-year-old made his Newcastle debut in the Uefa Cup late last year and he has since played twice in the Premiership - including an excellent second half display in the defeat at Portsmouth on Saturday, which saw him singled out for praise from manager Glenn Roeder.

The teenage forward's progress is now set to be rewarded with a new contract.

"Andrew has been offered a new four-year contract," his representative Peter Harrison told skysports.com.

"He is delighted with the way things have been going and obviously the club feel the same.

"He has been doing really well and he is looking forward to signing an extension."

Fuck off, just fuck right off :ok:

the only reason we've been playing kids is because the 1st team has been either ravaged by injury or discovered to be severely lacking in terms of quality and or commitment.

what a fucking ridiculous statement

Ive heard that Andrew Carroll is a tall striker however the official site lists him as 166cm tall or 5'5...

Then to top it off the line just under his details says this;

Tall powerful striker who joined the Academy from Joseph Swan School in Gateshead.

So what is his height then? Is he Peter Crouch like?

Whoever wrote that wants their head kicking in.

To be fair, it doesn't say exactly what its producing.

Freddy Shepherd: "Over the years, our supporters have liked nothing more than seeing a local lad come through the ranks at Newcastle United.

Says a lot about our achievements over the years when our biggest enjoyment is seeing a local lad come through the ranks! We probably 'enjoy' it because it's so rare, whereas clubs like Liverpool have produced and expect to produce top players from their ranks all the time. Who was the last full international to come through our ranks anyone?

Why the question mark? Was he the last one or wasn't he? ;)
