National federations should receive a cut of transfer fees

Interesting point:

Raymond Domenech feels national federations should receive a cut of transfer fees, if clubs are entitled to compensation for players injured on international duty.

Newcastle United are fighting with The Football Association to recover the costs of Michael Owen's recuperation from a knee injury suffered at last summer's World Cup.

But France national team coach Domenech is wary about the power being wielded by the G14, which comprises the richest clubs in Europe.

Domenech feels the G14 are trying to make football a closed shop and he has voiced his opposition to the organisation.

He also admitted that, if clubs win their fight for recompense for injured players, then national associations should be entitled to a slice of a player's transfer fee.

"We have to protect our sport from money and the G14's will for hegemony," Domenech told Le Monde.

"I fear a closed world that the pressure group of 18 teams wants to create.

"The compensation for call-ups to the national team? If we accept that proposition, I advocate that federations take advantage of a part of the transfer fees.

"Because, for example, when a player is quoted 10, after a World Cup or European Championship, he can be worth 100."
