I don't think it explained, but I'd guess that is the magnetic north pole which won't be exactly at the 'top' of the planet as the earth's axis is on a slight tilt. Just a guess mind.

I love Top Gear and enjoyed the programme, but I got the impression that the whole thing had been set up so Clarkson could say "the environment's fine, stop picking on cars"

It was funny as fuck when the soldier who was with them pushed Clarkson into the freezing water, the old twat could've had a heart attack from the shock of how cold it was. His face as he clambered out was mint.

It was pretty funny watching him desperately scramble to get out.

Becasue you can't take a real vehicle onto the polar ice - you'd go straight through

In summer too (given it was light).

Most likely, but he's right though (in a way).

Even all the 4x4 and patio heaters (the new "FOR SHAME!!!!!!" item) in the world are eclipsed by another 1 billion more chinese with fridges, plasma TV’s and air conditioning. Never mind another 2 billion (on top of that 1 billion) people across central/western Asia and Africa.

Basically the only thing that is going to “save the planet” is a world wide cull of over 4 billion+ people…. yup I can really see that making it into the Green Party manifesto for the next election.
