Gudjohnsen left behind

Barcelona have confirmed that Eidur Gudjohnsen will not be going on their tour Asia.

Gudjohnsen is suffering with a knee problem and Barca have stressed that this is the reason he will not be travelling.

The Icelander missed the pre-season trip to Scotland and he has not yet recovered enough to link-up with the first-team squad, who face three games in Asia beginning on August 5.

However, Spanish reports insist that West Ham, along with Newcastle and Manchester City, will continue their bids to prise him away from Camp Nou and it is the interest which has led to Barca's decision to leave him behind.

The player himself has always insisted that he is willing to fight for his role with the Catalan giants.

But the interested Premier League clubs are looking to tempt him back to England and the chance of regular first-team football could yet sway the former Bolton man

If (in addition to the much needed defenders) we are going to go for a more attacking replacement for Dyer than an out and out midfielder then Gudjohnsen over Smith is an absolute no brainer for me.

But then i don't think we have neccesarilly been after SMith at all, certainly nobody at the club has indicated as such.

Its quite likely our name has been thrown in because we made enquiries when we wernt sure if martins or owen were staying. Nothing really to say we are still after him now. Though Id rather have him than Smith. In fact, Id rather have him than most of our forward line.

Are West Ham linked with every player this summer? Seriously, they have come from nowhere to becoming a team I really hate. Couldnt stand them last season and theyre just getting worse by buying everything in the transfer market. If only Sheff Utd had stayed up...
