BTW I almost guarantee that the deciding factor for Ashley to let Enrique go was the fact that Shane Ferguson appears to have been accepted and admired by the fans. Rather than us having a capable young prospect to provide decent backup cover with a view to take over in years to come, Ashley's decided to dispense with the idea of developing a squad as well as a team.

Ferguson should be replacing Enrique on merit (like Kelly has by replacing Johnson at Liverpool), not by virtue of a simple fact that the bloke who had the shirt has been sold for profit.

That's rubbish. Enrique refused to enter contract negotiations long before Ferguson stepped in. He wants more than we can offer football wise and its as simple as that.

its actually spot on, and nailed.

It is a viewpoint Ashley has, and has been obvious for so long, its unbelievable there are still people that can't see it.

Stand by for people saying that because we have Ferguson, we will be "fine". What the fuck is "fine" ?

Thats not a slant against Ferguson who has a good left foot and has potential, but the clubs attitude and lack of ambition, which sadly, the younger element took for granted and are now getting an almightly shock.

Sadly it'll either be Ferguson chucked in too early, especially as he's still a young winger learning to play LB or we'll get somebody like Perch in or even worse actually Perch to play LB if Enrique goes. I like the look of Ferguson to potentially cover the whole of the left side but thats what he should be next season, cover, not first choice for any position.

And JamesD is right, us and the mackems should be aiming for 6th as more than achievable if you're well run and spend a bit of money, not even anything stupid, and if the owner really wanted to go for it then chuck a shtload of money in and have a crack at top 4, but that's fantasy stuff for us!

Exactly. I've not changed my stance either, I've not seen anything to even contemplate it, lots of people have had a go at me because they disagreed though, I'm not going to start saying what people want me to say now just to suit their opinions, and if Mike Ashley proves me wrong I'll be the first to admit it.

I dont think anyone has asked you to do that. Anyway, I've said my part.

Who is the best left back you've ever seen btw Leazes?

I think Beresford was a tad overrated and I preferred a pre-injured Elliott to him at the time. Olivier Bernard turned out to be a class act for us. Not sure why he failed elsewhere. Hopefully Enrique's career will plummet like that after he signs for Liverpool

Thinking about it we've had some dross at LB over the years. Stimmo being one of the worst. Paul Bodin on loan. Sansom was finished as well when we signed him.

I said this in a different thread a few weeks or so ago :(

Frank Clark, Alan Kennedy, Beresford, Enrique....prob the best 4. Not much to choose. Clark was a top class defender, but an out and out defender. The other 3 attacked a lot more, but none of them were as good as Clark as defenders.

All of them top players.

The only player I've seen get past Enrique this season, was Lennon, once. The only player I ever saw who got past Frank Clark on the outside, once, was Duncan McKenzie in that 4-3 Forest FA Cup game in 1974. Maybe that is all my memory can remember, but it didn't happen to him very often.

Frank Clark says that John Robertson was the best "left winger" that ever played in front of him btw.

I'm not talking about it from Enrique's side of things you utter mong. Read it again!

My point is that Ashley has no interest in retaining Enrique who's undoubtedly going to be rightly asking for a wages increase when he feels he has a ready-made, cheaper alternative in Ferguson.

It would be nice, admittedly, but why should he, especially seeing crap he gets.

And whys that?

Here's a clue:

5.2 The Club admitted to the Tribunal that it repeatedly and intentionally misled the press, public and the fans of Newcastle United.

That's a quote from Keegan's camp, retard.

I think you might find its a quote from the actual findings of the unfair dismissal tribunal, not the LMA who I think you may be referring to

Nope they are definitely from the Keegan camp. I know this because its been mis-quoted from day one;

Kevin Keegan reacted to the news by releasing a statement in which he said: ....... 5.2 The club admitted to the tribunal that it repeatedly and intentionally misled the press, public and the fans of Newcastle United.
http://www.nufc.com/2010-11html/2009-10-02...-nufc-ours.html

If you read the full tribunal transcripts you will see that Keegan made that statement because Wise et al said on several occasions Keegan had final say, which they confirmed was to keep the fans happy. This promise was only broken with the loan signing of Gonzalez. Note the absence of the Milner sale, so it must have been agreed upon.

From the judgment:

27. First, the Club did not, we find, explain in any way to Mr Keegan that they felt compelled to make these statements [that KK had the final say] notwithstanding that they were untrue or to clarify and confirm with him that despite what the Club was saying publicly in these statements, he did not have the final say. Nor did the Club speak to him in advance and explain to him what they were proposing to do and the reasons for it. If the Club's explanation were true, we fail to understand why they did not do so.

28. Secondly, we do not understand why the Club could not set out publicly and truthfully what they maintain was the true position. After all, Mr Ashley's vision for the Club involved a change to a Continental structure and it is clear from the evidence that there are managers of some Continental clubs who do not have the final say. We do not understand why the Club felt unable to make this clear publicly from the outset, regardless of what Mr Keegan himself may have said.

29. Thirdly, for the Club to have made these statements, when they were, according to the Club, untrue, was, in our view, simply to store up trouble for the future.

In other words, Ashley and co were bullshitting KK from the start and failed to make their true intentions publicly clear. In other words, they intentionally misled the press, public, and fans of Newcastle United. (And KK.)

If a "bigger" club who or already in the CL or looking as though they are heading there, come in for a player who has ambitions to be in the CL then he's going to go.

We are neither of those.

Utter bollocks. All of them points are referring to the Gonzalez loan deal. Keegan won on a technicality - i.e. he didn't have final say on a nobody loan deal. Keegan didn't walk over the loan deal and everyone knows it. The absence of Milner from the entire tribunal speaks volumes.

and Enrique is agreeing to join Liverpool because ?

You don't get it man. Football is not like a normal workplace, the "employees" hold all the aces, not the other way round, its the clubs who have to sell themselves to the top players not the players to the clubs.

Did the club mislead the press, public and fans of Newcastle United as regards Kevin Keegan having the final say on players, or did they not? The judgment indicates that they did.

here we go again...

YOU tell ME where I mentioned the previous owners.....

I am stating a FACT of football life, this is the reality of the transfer market.....if YOU want to read it as they were better than Ashley, its true, but it isn't me who is saying it.

Ashley is an unambitious cunt who is taking the club into decline. Enrique knows it, this is why he is going, and most of the first team squad now know it, any of them who do not are truly thick cunts. The ones who are now good enough and young enough to play for the top clubs will know it and they will ALL fuck off, in time, for CAREER REASONS.

This is about MIKE ASHLEY AND THE CURRENT SITUATION AND STATE OF NEWCASTLE UNITED.

Whatever you say pal, it doesn't alter the findings of the tribunal, however much you try and stretch or twist the points

What did Ashley do with the Milner money?...there were players lined up by all accounts, but you'll likely argue that one as well.

CT need I point out he's under fucking contract for another 14 months. That means it IS the club's decision. They have another 8 months of 1st dibs negotiation but they're clearly not interested in offering him anything remotely acceptable.

And I don't buy this bollocks that he's wanting out and not one single offer would be good enough to change his mind. It totally goes against the actions of a player who has taken the city, the club and the fans to his heart.

Your Ashley apologism is frankly getting ridiculous.

Guest Your Name Here
A canny post CT, I have also just come to accept we're never going to seriously challenge the top 5 ever, unless we get some daft arab oil exporter who fancies us as his toy. It's impossible to break the top 5 without bankrupting yourself, Spurs are apparently in a bit of financial bother already and that's all for what, one Champions League campaign? They still lack a goalscorer too which is another £20m gone chasing something they may not even get. It's just not financially viable.

I personally would love the Premier League to just destroy itself so we can properly regulate and structure English football and give the game back to the common fan, but I guess this is taking things off on a completely different tangent...

Challenging 6th should be the aim of NUFC and SAFC, I think that's possible without spending 100's of million. That and a cup run now and again would do just nicely. :(

For a mackem thats pretty good post like.

But

Sunderland should not and will not be challenging for the same things as we should be. Your a club not even two thirds our size. Not half as colourful history and nowhere near the same class of fans (on the whole) and lets be honest....sunderlands a bit of a shithole.

Both clubs were fairly evenly matched until Keegan and Sir John Hall propelled us forward at great pace at a time when SAFC were going nowhere under Bob Murray. The relative league positions may have converged but the gulf in status remains. I wouldn’t be too smug though. NUFC are living on past ‘glories’ and the way we’re being run under FMA it wouldn’t be a surprise to see us overtaken by SAFC on and off the pitch over the next five years.

The kind of complacency your displaying is exactly why NUFC are in danger of sleepwalking into mediocrity again.
