I'm not ruling out selling Tiote for big money on the last day of the window

Neither am I. I was just saying he was one of the best (probably the best) player last season. On that basis I'll be gutted when they eventually do cash in (January is my guess btw).

Buy in summer, sell in January as a broad rule of thumb.

As if everything the club says is gospel ;)Our 4 best players last year were Carroll, Enrique, Nolan and Barton. We have sold one and the other 3 have rejected contracts. The contracts can't be that awesome or something is seriously wrong behind the scenes at the club.

Don't forget Tiote. I take your point like. I expect anti-Barton / Enrique propaganda to flow from the club if they both just let the last year of their respective contracts run down.

Barton, I doubt it tbh, it's the clubs choice to have withdrawn his deal.

If Enrique did choose to run his deal down (which I doubt he will) there damn well should be anti-Enrique feeling, nowt to do with propaganda.

Depends on the circumstances / whose side of the story you believe etc.

Don't think it comes down to sides of a story tbh (for Enrique). He's coming into his last year, he can either accept a new deal or be sold, given he's already been offered a new deal (reportedly) if he runs it down there's only him who can make that happen. Can't believe the club won't sell him, as they should, if he won't accept the deal.

I'm not saying the club shouldn't look to sell him if he doesn't sign a new deal. There are a few plausible scenarios in which Enrique is best served by not signing a new deal and seeing out the final year of his contract though. If you're going to say fair play to the club for 'playing hardball', then you can't really blame players and agents for doing the same.

Fair enough.

But re the bold - I never said they should !!

Due to the shite that's come from the club for the past couple of years I find myself now naturally siding with the player, which is piss poor for me to be honest. Let's face it, if Enrique does go I expect the club to go all guns blazing in blaming him for it. Same with Barton, they're keeping quiet about him at the minute because he's still an NUFC player but wait till he leaves, they'll wheel Pardew out to character assasinate him. Some of it might be true, but I'll take anything that Casino floor manager says with a pinch of salt.

Pretty much sums up my feelings too.

Who else they going to blame. They've offered him a new contract to stay, theres only Enrique to blame if he goes. ;)

(And fair enough if he wants to play CL football) Should still make his mind up one way or the other so a replacement can be acted on.

With regard to Barton its already public knowledge that he has cooked his own goose by having too many things to say against the board whether that be statements to the press or talk-ins. The blokes a fool on that score.

It's not as simple as offering someone a new contract though, it depends whats in the detail of that contract.

I think they could offer him virtually anything and he'll still be off. Im sure the chance of CL football is too big to turn down.

Fair point. I think what I'm trying to say is that I'm not as anti-player when it comes to this sort of stuff as I used to be, such is my general distrust of the men in charge.

Not really, he'll be waiting to see if the clubs ambition matches his and to see what the contract situation really is like regarding other players, most likely

Just dont believe that plays any part in his thinking. He's simply waiting to see which "BIG" clubs come in for him.

As that twat Adrian Durham said the other night (and for the first time ever, I agreed with him): "I'm sick of hearing about players talking about clubs matching their ambition, what that really means is: I want more money".

I reckon if they'd matched what he was already on then he'd already have signed.

Sorry, but I think you're wrong (neither of us will be able to prove it one way or the other though).

Player with one year left, who's succesfully stalled to get into that position, holds all the cards.

Enrique on the verge of signing new 4 year contract #nufc #lfc

An excellent source, she was the one who broke the Pardew story back in october.

;)

If he does sign, a few tenuous theories about us being a selling club might need to be re-visited.

If he does sign, i will be of the view that the Carroll deal was a brave and ambitious deal that will allow the club to step up another level.

Big ifs like but would be funny seeing as pages and pages of moaning and further entrenchment of views was based on Enrique leaving.
