TRANSFER RUMOURS

 

 

West Ham want to offer Gabriel Heinze, whose proposed move to Liverpool has been blocked by his club Manchester United, an escape route. (The Sun)

 

After losing his attempt to force United to allow him to move to Liverpool, Heinze said: "I am not anti-United but I have to consider that my stay at United is finished." (Daily Mirror)

 

Portsmouth have failed in a bid to land Yakubu, despite offering fellow striker David Nugent to Middlesbrough, plus £5m. (Various)

 

Pompey want to hijack Everton's bid to sign Yakubu by selling David Nugent to Derby for about £4.5m and using the cash, plus £7m-rated Gary O'Neil, to buy the Boro star. (Daily Mirror)

 

West Brom are keen to offload striker John Hartson, who wants to join Swansea, before the transfer window closes on 31 August. (The Sun)

Martin Jol will remain in his role as manager of Tottenham after Sevilla boss Juande Ramos turned down the offer of a £3m three-year deal to take over at White Hart Lane. (Daily Mirror)

 

Ramos, who is still in talks with Spurs, is unlikely to replace Jol because the Sevilla coach wants to eventually become Chelsea boss. (Daily Star)

Former West Brom striker Lee Hughes will have to wait to make his Oldham debut because he was sent off when playing for prison side Featherstone FC, while serving a dangerous driving sentence, and was banned for 35 days, with another week still to serve of the suspension. (Daily Star)

Much better than Shola, probably better than Viduka and younger too. We'll see how he does. I think you've written him off a little bit early though.
