Going to the Everton match with a Scouser

My dad is working on the sunday of the Everton game so I've got a spare ticket. One of my mates has asked if he can come with me. The problem is he's got a full-on scouse accent.

He's not a toffee (a Tranmere supporter with reds tendencies- forgive me Stevie) but is it wise to go to the match (and have a drink before or after the game) with him? Are we likely to attract the unwanted attention of a few idiots?

Probably not wise or probably not likely to get any grief?

Probably won't get any grief. Just stay clear from the Ultra radgies in Level 7, mind.

I'll be going to the Liverpool match in November with a red scouser in tow. Not quite sure which end we'll be sitting in yet either but we'll both be in our respective shirts ;)

I can't see why there'd be any aggro - bit of banter perhaps. Anyway, if he has Reds tendancies, surely he'll be screaming for us anyway? ;)

In all honesty Dr Ken, I doubt there'll be much if any grief. I reckon there'd be more chance if he was a Blue Nose who was tagging along to a Newcastle v Liverpool game.

On the whole, we seem to have more respect for Liverpool than we do Everton in the same way we do for Arsenal rather than Spuds.

Dear Doctor K.

The likelyhood of attracting unwanted attention from anyone be they idiot or no is obviously a paramount concern in situations like this and I can understand the misgivings you must have.

On searching for a viable solution I have arrived at the conclusion that in circumstances such as this it behoves you to instruct your companion to keep his gob shut so no one will suspect him of being an enemy.

No offence Craig, but I think you or her would be daft putting your shirts on, whichever end you sit in. Of course there might just be banter, but there might not, and why take the risk for the sake of wearing a football shirt? Besides if you sit in the away end in a toon top, there's a very good chance you'll be escorted out of the place. She might get away with it in the home end, but I really don't see the point in risking it.

95% chance that it'll be in our end - even if she gets the tickets, it'll be from someone who gets them for the toon end.

As for her not putting her shirt on, that's down to her - she'll be OK man, she'll probably have 5 layers on top of it given it's November and she's not from up there ;)

Should be OK, there was a bloke wearing an Everton top when we played them a few years ago in the home end and the worst he got was hacky looks. Mind, it did help we stuffed them. I think in general it is advisable not to wear opposition tops but the accent shouldn't be a problem at all.

I'm taking my lass (a Liverpool fan) to the Everton game.

And you still insist you're not one and the same person? ;)

I'm going to the Arsenal match (should we get tickets) with a mate and his dad who will drive us up there. My mate supports Newcastle, but his dad supports Arsenal. Not sure what's happening about the stands yet, but it will certainly be interesting on the way back. Basically he'll be jeering at us being the most likely outcome.

I took my die hard Arsenal cousin to the cup game a few seasons ago and told him not to jump up if they scored then he did exactly that when they did.

So a knob behind got up and was shouting and swearing at him them screamed at a steward to remove him, my cousin was 12 years old at the time!

So I got up and told this twat to shut the fuck up or I'd rip his head off and piss on his brains. Worked a treat.

His lass might follow Liverpool.....mine lives for them. Not a word can be spoken when they're on the box. I've never know a woman ruled by football as much - she even understands the offside rule FFS :icon_lol:

Mind you, the last game I had to watch with her was them playing the Mackems - not hard to agree with which way I wanted the match to go like....

Bet she has to explain things to you though.

This aspect of football that depresses me. One of the reasons that I gave up my season ticket at SJP was the abuse given to another human sitting near me being simply because he supported the other team. He was our guest and we should have made him welcome. But alas, you will all know that that didn't happen. Why does this happen in football? Go to a rugby or cricket game and you will actually be able to talk with supporters of the other team because they may be sitting next to you.
