No Emre issue for Magies

Sam Allardyce has moved to play down speculation over the immediate future of Newcastle midfielder Emre.

The Turkey international, currently on Euro 2008 duty with his country, was linked with a return to former club Galatasary at the weekend.

But the Magpies boss knows Emre will remain at St James' Park - at least until January.

Allardyce told the club's official website: "It's not an issue at the moment.

"There's no chance of him going back to Turkey because the transfer window is shut, so he can't go anywhere."

Emre has made just one appearance under Allardyce, in the 2-0 Carling Cup victory over Barnsley

Not exactly what you would call a vote of confidence really is it.

It does look like he's going, although not until the Jan window, obviously.

Probably no bad thing (assuming we can get a decent amount back for him) as it doesn't look like Allardyce either especially rates him or thinks he'll fit in with how he wants us to play.

who could replace him tho...if were gonna get rid of him witch obvious that we will, we need a top class creative midfielder to come and and replace him but then who would you drop in midfield

We wouldn't exactly need a top class creative midfielder to replace him, as he's not that himself. However, even if he stays, we're seriously lacking a creative player in there.

he's still probably the most creative central midfielder on our books. i'm not saying there aren't better players out there but we'd be foolish to sell him and allow smith to replace him. geremi, barton, smith and butt are a decent selection of central midfielders to call on but none of them are what you would consider flair players. only barton from those four gives you much in terms creativity but even then he's more of a box to box grafter than a 'door opener'. if we do let emre go, we need to replace him with someone that can run at defenders, pick a pass and maybe chip in with the odd set piece too.

For a creative player he doesn't create very much though does he?

You describe the attributes his replacement would need yet Emre can't run at defenders (with much success), pass a ball or take set pieces very well. We're best rid of him, get Barton to play that position until we can sign a top-class attacking midfielder.

he does all those things far more than any of our other centre midfielders!

he's shown signs of quality since he's been with us. i think he's suffered from playing in shite teams under shite managers and alongside players. i'd like to see if big sam can get more out of him. i remember him being quality player for turkey in the world cup a few years back and him putting in some good stints with inter too.

He can definitely run with the ball more than any of our other centre mids and I remember him doing it a fair bit when he was paired with Butt last season. His passing can be a bit erratic at time but then he's rarely had any movement in front of him and when he does have his passing can look a hell of a lot better.

His set pieces are definitely poor though especially when you consider what he has shown he is capable of on occasions (the goal against the makems being the prime example!).

I think he is one of many players who have yet to fill their billing. I'd like to see what he can do in a better organised team with a better, organised manager.

We should try to get the best out of him and see where we are in Jan. If he's coming good and Sam likes him then he stays. If not, we hopefully will have gotten some good games out of him which will increase his price.

I remember him being quite creative at Inter too, although that was around the time of the WC.

For now he can't go anywhere so we have two choices: we do what we normally do at NUFC and hound a player till he fucks off for nowt, or we give him some time and support (clean slate - new manager remember) and see if we can get something out of him.

Trouble with Emre is the previous managers couldn't keep him fit enough (his fault also), and Roeder persisted to play Emre and Parker in the middle, with Parker as the more offensive midfielder for some reason and Emre playing far too deep and not getting on the ball enough! When Emre and Butt were together, Emre looked like a decent player who could influence a game. Would like to see how he works as the left of a midfield 3 of Emre Barton Geremi but if not then I'm sure Zog could do a very effective job for us there, heck, he's the lad on form so give him the shirt there for a few weeks if Enrique is fit enough and able enough to now start at LB.
