Now that I get Celtic TV and Rangers TV free as part of the setanta package on Virgin, with the introduction of liverpool FC next week, it begs the question why dont more clubs do there own cable channels? a channel showing Newcsatle highlights or recent and old games, interviews and phone ins would be lush!

They could televise the 3 legends!

And have camera's at training showing them earning their money.

I'm sure Mort will be looking into this opportunity.

Probably the most sensible thing I've ever heard you say

cheap telly but would be great imho

new and improved online viewing

That would be the first step i reckon. If there's enough interest in watching classic matches or live press conferences online, the club will take it rapidly to the next level.

Newcastle World TV has been around for years on .cock.

Every league club has a "World TV" on their website, and they featuring live commentary, match highlights and shitty interviews. But it would be a real upgrade if they would make some old games available, and god forbid they would hire some pundits who would talk a half an hour about our next match and put it on .cock 1 or 2 days before the match.

Agreed, and a proper TV channel would be even better[/armchairfan]

^ Indeed... and the first step to getting that would be ditching the whole "World" service in the first place.

Loads of league clubs are run with that "World" service, but I think it's no coincidence all the clubs who do have the proper TV channel (expcpet Rangers maybe) have their site run internally.

Newcastle may link with BSkyB in TV channel deal

Independent, The (London), Sep 27, 1997 by Andrew Yates

Newcastle United is considering signing a deal with Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB and Granada, the television and leisure group, to set up its own TV channel. BSkyB and Granada are also likely to sign up Manchester United and have also offered to set up a channel for Liverpool. And, in another deal that shows the increasing commercialisation of football, Andrew Yates reports that ENIC, the investment trust backed by Bahamas-based billionaire Joe Lewis is close to buying a majority stake in the Greek club AEK. . . Members of the Toon Army, as Newcastle United's devoted following is affectionately known, could soon be able to watch their favourite team on the club's own television channel. Newcastle are considering plans to join forces with BSkyB and Granada to set up the channel and have a firm offer on the table according to sources close to BSkyB. The club is thought to be likely to accept the offer. Even if it does not sign the deal, it will press ahead with plans to create a television channel with another broadcaster.

The LFC TV thing comes packaged with Setanta. According to a die-hard Liverpool fan it's not worth £9.99 - he reckons it's a pile of shite that is looped every couple of hours and said that if he was only buying Setanta for the LFC channel, he wouldn't bother.

If they're going to bi-hourly loop the channel of a club who's won the European Cup 5 times, the English league 18 times and the FA Cup 7 times, how regularly would they be looping it for us?? <_<

I think the novelty factor would wear off very quickly and I dunno about the rest of you but I'd hate to watch a drawn out analysis of the shambles we produced against Citeh just so that I got my money's worth...

The whole club TV thing would be easy to create, problem is to fill it with worthwhile content it would be very costly.

The clubs don't own the television media rights per se and because of that, years and years of classic games would cost them a fee to broadcast.

Craig you make an interesting point about Liverpool a club that has won the European Cup 5 times, the English league 18 times and the FA Cup 7 times but you can bet they don't own much of the footage of those games.

A program I was advising on recently wanted to purchase some archive footage from the 1960s from another network (our bbc equivalent) only to be told it would cost them $200/second, so can you imagine how much the beeb wants for their 60s/70s classic footage.
