Owen delays surgery for England.

Fuck England, we should be looking at the international break as a chance for him to recuperate while not missing as many games for Newcastle.

What's the point of keeping him hobbling about for a month? Get the op organised tomorrow. Was it a German woman that Shearer went to see? He was only out a few weeks.

Aye that's what I meant, if we do it now and he's still recuperating during international week then he's missing less games for us.

I think Owen is going to the same woman as Shearer, I think he was back in light training just a couple of days after the op.

Yeah it seems to be the same one they are talking about, the recovery time should be very short if it all goes well (pioneered some new technique or other I think).

Think about it wasn't Shearer playing semi-injured in a similar way for a while before he had that done?

Owen doubt for key England games

Michael Owen may need a double hernia operation, potentially ruling him out of England's two Euro 2008 qualifiers in October, BBC Sport understands.

Owen, 27, limped out of Newcastle's match on Sunday and surgery would rule him out for up to two months.

BBC Radio 5live football correspondent Jonathan Legard said: "Owen had hoped to play through the pain barrier but the problem has deteriorated rapidly.

"His preferred option, to defer surgery until Christmas, is not realistic."

The striker was also substituted during the Magpies previous game, a 1-0 defeat at Derby on Monday 17 September.

And after Sunday's defeat of West Ham, Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce said: "I am worried that he asked to come off against West Ham because he felt it, whereas it was me who took him off against Derby."

Owen had a scan after the game against Derby - after which Allardyce claimed the striker did not need an ankle operation.

However, after Sunday's game Allardyce added: "Even though the initial scan was clear, there's a persistent area which is causing him a problem.

"We need to look deeper into that."

"We will scan it again, get a specialist opinion and see where we go from there."

Owen came off in the second half against the Hammers.

He has scored five times for club and country this season after missing the majority of the 2006-07 campaign because of a cruciate ligament injury suffered at the 2006 World Cup finals.

Owen netted three times for England in this month's Euro 2008 qualifying victories over Israel and Russia.

England boss Steve McClaren is already without Emile Heskey, who partnered Owen up front for both those wins, after the Wigan striker suffered a broken metatarsal on 15 September.

Time to cut our losses and get rid.

What are we losing by keeping him?

£103,000 per week, apparently.

Are we short of money?

It's not a question of being short of money, it's about keeping hold of a player that's permanently injured when we could be using his wages to sign someone who isn't missing the majority of the time.

Like who?

"It's not about money it's about using his wages for someone else" - so it is about money then isn't it.

Who exactly is not coming to NUFC because we have Owen?

Another striker perhaps? That's what usually happens when you sell one.

Unless you think we should continue with a player who's injury prone just so we can get the odd game out of him?

That's exactly what I'm saying, unless you convince me there are strikers refusing to come to NUFC because he is here, or that Owen's wages are stopping us buying another striker.

It's not a case of strikers refusing to come here, it's a case of us not signing another striker because we're already overstocked in that area.

Is it really that hard for you to get your head around?

We aren't overstocked. If you think we're not buying another striker because we have Owen then I have to disagree. The issue is we don't have enough good strikers to cover for any of them getting injured, nothing to do with Owen himself.

Wouldnt mind seeing Oba play up top with the Vidukanator against city on Saturday, Im sure with his strength and vision he can lay on some chances for Oba, not that he will hit the target on current form.

I dont think Owen will string together a run of games without picking up injuries, he never really has, even when he was younger he still picked up niggles that kept him out for a few weeks. If we can get 20 games out of him this season we will be lucky
