You never got this with Monet :(

_39233950_baltic203.jpgPolice are continuing to examine an art exhibit seized from a Tyneside gallery amid fears it may have breached child pornography laws. The image is being examined by Northumbria Police to determine whether it is legal. A police spokeswoman said the item was taken from Gateshead's Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art on Thursday. A spokeswoman for the gallery, which opened in 2002, said no exhibitions were being removed as a result.

Police were alerted by Baltic managers the day before a number of exhibits were due to be unveiled. The artist's name has not been released, but according to the Baltic website, five exhibitions were due to open to the public last Friday. A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "We attended the Baltic last Thursday at the invitation of management, who were seeking advice about an item from an exhibition prior to it going on public display. This item is being assessed and Northumbria Police, in consultation with the CPS, is investigating the circumstances surrounding it."

A CPS spokeswoman confirmed that in such cases its experts gave police preliminary advice but she said that it would not be involved in the investigation until a file had been received from officers. The £46m modern art gallery, on Gateshead's Quayside, has attracted 2.5m visitors since it opened.

Either that or this country is gripped by POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD :(

In this case maybe more over zealous interpretation of legislation GONE MAD :P

Still censoring "art" was always one of the last taboos, be interesting to see if we ever find out what this was about.

It'll probably just be a fairly innocuous picture of a naked bairn that some jobsworth has identified as CHILD-PORNTASTIC because they want to protect the children (and not at all because it made them think nasty things).

The Baltic is shit anyway :(

Shame, as it could be class.

Aye. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's shit, but there's definitely an opportunity being missed somewhere along the line. I'd rephrase your question to "I wonder how many of the 2.5 million visitors only went for the view from the top", mind.

I've been a few times and, in the main, I've not seen much good stuff. Like a lot of modern art galleries the shop is probably the best thing about the place.

Whenever I go to the Baltic they have loads of floors shut, you can only go and see a couple of things. Best thing I ever saw there was the guy who had the tunnel with all the teles in and you got to go down the slide at the end.

if the managers were worried it must be pretty rough stuff...................................

Not necessarily. I remember when the new laws came in and there was a lot of ambiguity. Just for a change!

Why are no paedophiles black?

Why can we no longer think of the British Isles without the word "paedoph" in front of them?

"Dear Sir, I am a paedophile. Can I have sex with this 3-year-old girl now she is 21?"

Absolutely no way

You should be in a mental institution
