Newcastle United are set to be without defender Abdoulaye Faye for three weeks.

Faye suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday's 1-1 draw against Sunderland, and is now likely to miss the Premier League games against Liverpool and Blackburn.

Furthermore, the centre-back will be unavailable for Senegal's upcoming clashes against Mali and Morocco.

"We're looking at two or three weeks for Faye and one thing it does is stop him going on international duty," Magpies boss Sam Allardyce told the club's official website.

Positive news

However, Newcastle have been boosted by the news that Stephen Carr and Shay Given are closing in on returns.

Given has been struggling with a groin problem while Carr has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

But Allardyce has revealed that the duo could be back in time for the encounter against Liverpool, a week on Saturday.

"Carr and Given should be back no problem in a week or so," he added.

"Stephen Carr will play in a training game in midweek, to help us get him back."
