Riise quiet on Toon talk

Recommended Posts

Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has refused to comment on speculation linking him with a summer move to Newcastle, according to the player's representative.

The Norwegian international, who is also capable of playing in midfield, has fallen out of favour at Anfield this season with Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez preferring the pairing of Fabio Aurelio and Ryan Babel on the Reds' left-hand side.

However, Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan is rumoured to be an admirer of Riise, who joined Liverpool from Monaco in 2001 for £4.6million.

Keegan is understood to be keen to bolster his shaky defence in the summer after shipping 57 goals so far this term.

However, Riise's representative - Jan Kvalheim - insists the 27-year-old, who has also been linked with a move to Aston Villa, will not add weight to the speculation.

"This is just speculation and John Arne will not comment on this," Kvalheim told the Dagbladet website.

We really, really need to stop buying top-4 rejects tbh

That's why we're so shit, players who leave the top 4 no longer have the hunger or else they would be knuckling down trying to get back into those sides. Instead we sign them on over-inflated contracts and they're ultimately utter holocausts

I agree with Sima....for possibly the 1st time ever.

And wouldn't his prime reason for wanting to come here would be better wages/signing on fee considering he has major financial problems in Norway? About time we stopped making average players so bloody rich for nothing in return!

I dunno like, his wage slip looked pretty tidy. :(

Although I agree with what Sima says, SOME players have left top four clubs and still been effective - e.g. Campbell, James

yup. cast-offs from big clubs inevitably turn up for a final pay day, view the move to us as a step down and lack desire. keegan would be better off doing what sbr did and look for young hungry players with pace

Too true - speed is of the essence - riise is past his best and i hope we don't fall into this trap of experienced players on big contracts like carr and babayaro et al - pace and hunger to be the best imho

He be a good buy if you don`t inflate his weekly wage, good player having a poor season.
He isn't really a good player though. It's been pointed out already that he's very limited in terms of what he can do.

He`s very versatile and experienced, he`s also not injury prone and has a great disiplineary record.

He`s also better than what you have at the moment.

See that's the thing for me, he's not really and he's not young enough to have the potential to drastically improve.

He's no better left wing than N'Zogbia, and Enrique at least has time and a youthful hunger about him
