He'll be laughing because he knows he isn't going to be fired. There will be no questions asked, they'll just let him get on with it until we either go down or he somehow keeps us up. Either way, he has the look of a man who is under no pressure whatsoever.

Brolly-boy's replacement is waiting for the call. McClaren was hired after getting fired by Derby and now they've fired another one so we should hire him.

We have an affinity for rejects.

I think its a bit harsh again on here. Do you want the manager to say the players are all shit and be all depressed? He needs to try and keep spirits up and keep the players onside in coaching to actually get them to learn how to play again.

all this 80 mil talk, yep its a lot of money, and a few years ago it's a lot of money as far as transfers go, but now its fuck all - clubs are spunking that sum on ONE player. If you want a world class player you're paying 80 mil plus some.

I'm keeping the faith, Saturday was shocking , but I can't blame McLaren for not having defenders as I still think he's got very little to do with transfers. Getting Shelvey, Mitrovic and Townsend were probably his only "purely independent" decisions.

So disappointed... I really don't want us going back to hoofball in order to get results.

Thing that is bothering me is that everyone wanted players with "fight" and "heart" and "Englishness" and all those other cliches. So we bought Shelvey and Townsend. Both have one of those qualities.

Not sure if that's what people wanted to be fair. I think they wanted players that have shown they know how to play in the Premier League, unlike the likes of Thauvin and Cabella. Shelvey and Townsend have both shown they can play well in this league. Arguably Colback has shown fight and Englishness, and I don't think anyone thought we needed any more Colbacks.

What we did want, and need, was proven quality in certain areas (left back, centre mid and centre forward) and more depth in others. We only partly met those requirements over the last two windows and we might well end up going down as a result.

from those fixtures before we play again Sunderland could be in a much better position and by the way we are playing just cant see us surviving, think its going to be Villa, Norwich and us, hopefully some sudden fight will magically be found in the team while there away or we forget to bring Mclaren back with us bar that just cant see us surviving.

JS82949553.jpgI wonder why he has his fingers crossed.

Hoping for precise passing with overlaps while keeping the ball on the deck?

Shelvey:

"It is a bit open here and a bit windy, can’t really string two passes together because the balls are going everywhere."

Mc Clarens been given a new word to use bet you cant geuss what it is this is him speaking to the Chronicle

"

It’s about focus. That is the key word.

“When this team is focused and really truly focused, when they have got their game heads on, we are a good team that can serve up good performances – like the West Brom game.

“If we aren’t focused and we get disrupted by certain things, or our routine is upset, or this or that isn’t right…and we aren’t actually focused come kick-off time, then we are vulnerable.

“That has been the message to the players – when the team are focused and have that intensity in preparation before games, the game takes care of itself"

He's a strange bloke isn't he. He's got a bit of the Ed Milliband about him, in that he seems like a canny enough bloke with good intentions, and probably some very good professional abilities, but he can hardly do owt without somehow looking like a right divvy.

What they should be focusing on is that there's still 36 points to play for. That's absolutely loads. With the players we have got, allied to a positive approach, it should be very possible for us to get out of this and be safe with games to spare. "Should" is the operative word like.

Steve McClaren has urged his players to ignore some of the fierce criticism that has come their way during the Magpies’ stay in La Manga and focus on the task in hand in the Premier League.

Sky Sports pundits Paul Merson and Phil Thompson both slammed United’s decision to head to La Manga for a training camp last week.

Merson suggested the trip should have been “cancelled” while Thompson remarked United would be having a couple of “nights out” during their stay.

While the players did eat together as a group, United’s relegation-haunted squad were in bed by 10pm after taking part in double training sessions after a five night stay at the Príncipe Felipe Hotel.

After the 2-1 win over Lillestrom on Saturday, McClaren told the Chronicle: “We have to ignore the circus that goes around it. We have to focus and concentrate on what we can do. We have to ignore a lot of people and we do. The players have talked about that and realised the position we were in.

“Let’s not leave it to the last game like last season.”

Newcastle must wait until March 2 for their next game at Stoke City, but they go into the fixture on the back of a victory, albeit a friendly win over Norwegian opponents.

McClaren said after the game at the La Manga Club: “We wanted a game and desperately needed it.

“Everybody got minutes and worked hard. The change of environment was key for us, to get the players together and talking about the last 12 games and what we need to do was good.”

Around 600 fans took in the game in La Manga and McClaren and his players stayed behind after the match to satisfy the demand for autographs and pictures.

He admitted the crowd meant the game had an edge to it and said: “We talked about before the game, it wasn’t a behind-closed-doors friendly, it was a competitive game.

“People came and watched. It was also broadcasted back to Norway and back to England.

“So you get judged, you get judged every day and every game no matter where you are.”

Merson and Thompson  what insight do either of them have into any modern football club? Let alone one they do their best to pretend doesn't matter whilst being their barometer of whether another club is big or not.

Getting away from the media coverage, training and having a friendly match makes complete sense in our situation when we've no cup game on.

Aye, but it's sunny there... so it's a slap in the face of all those people who aren't currently working somewhere sunny.

or something.

He needs to try keep morale up, hes akin to that Iraqi defence minister. But he can't come out and say "we're shit , we need vast improvement quickly etc" as most of our players will play at hiding and not being held responsible for errors. I expect any manager to make statements like the above, he's little option. I bet he's fucking raging that he didn't get any defenders or a striker (Doumba really is a smokescreen imo).
