I don't believe he wanted Beckham, Lampard et al, I think he would have been after Schweinsteiger though. I don't think Gutierriez would have appeared on his radar.

The thing is he can go on and on about what type of player we currently demand, the fact is the squad is wafer thin, it was implied we'd get five in towards the end of the transfer window, and we got two, one of them in a position we're not badly off. Yesterday emphasised this point, and even if they were Bassong or Guthrie type players we badly needed extra numbers. I knew in my heart of hearts we would lose that game yesterday, how can you win Premiership games when the only player with genuine pace is playing left back? Forget the squabbles, that is his, Wise, Vitere and the other cunts major fault.

That's the thing isn't it, the media are going to hype us up all the more (using their own bollocks instead of facts) that the fans of NUFC demand so much. It'll make it harder in my eyes for any new owner to see the club in a positive light, no wonder Ambani has turned his attention towards Everton based on the turmoil at our club. It's a shame that the press can't actually report on the truth of what the fans want/need to be happy, are we cursed?

I suppose the buck does stop with him, but I do believe if he had the right two beneath him in Keegan and Wise's positions, working together they would have supplied a fuller list of targets.

 

It's not up to him to find the players, but it is up to him to have the scouting system beneath him providing the shopping list. I'd be more inclined to blame the fact that Keegan and Wise were pulling in polar directions.

This is the worst of his propaganda. I've defended him on the basis that he's pumped a HELL of a lot of his wealth into the club, always on the assumption he was in this for the long haul and wouldn't see a return unless he maintained the club in or above the position he found it.

 

As it is, he's chosen to cut his losses at the first sign of trouble and has said he will not walk away unless he takes a healthy profit, despite the club being a far bigger shambles than the one he bought.

If Gates had taken us over instead of Ashley he could have wiped off debts and spent as much as he'd like on players, because by the next transfer window he'll have recouped the loss in interest alone. If Ashley was trying to run this club within his means, he should have looked closer at it before he bought it then.. but I still think his departure won't hail a glorious future.

Hes paid £110 million off the debt but he says we're still in it (Im assuming by at least that amount again otherwise its likely he would have just paid it all, reading his statement says we cant afford to buy players other than from the £20million he was willing to put in each year, where exactly has the three years season ticket money gone then? where would the TV revenue go and the numerous numerous millions made in merchandising?

 

I have time for Ashley but all he had to do was get rid of Wise, speak to the fans and things would have been better.

You're right in that, the only thing this press coverage is going to do is strengthen their bargaining position. The product hasn't changed, but the owners position clearly has. Trouble is, we're making the change now, when nothing can be done to the playing staff and it's unlikely we'll see Keegan reinstated and Wise leaving.

 

And if I'm honest I don't want the scouting system (Vetere, Jiminez) to go, it's a vast improvement on past regimes.
