The article has just been written to get a reaction and, as Stevie has pointed out with the attendances, isn't the best researched.

However, I agree with him to a certain extent on the Cockney Mafia stuff. Notwithstanding the fact that neither Ashsley or Wise are cockneys (in the truest sense of the word), it kind of perpetuates the impression that us geordies have a chip on our shoulders about Southerners. Ashley and Wise are twats, regardless of where they are from. Let's be honest, stuff like that does us no favours with the largely southern based media.

That said, shite article and, as somebody else pointed out, don't e-mail him as that is what he is looking for.

Pretty spot on. The wording of the banner probably wasn't that well-thought out. At least it wasn't a misspelled spray can daubing on a bed sheet though.

Supposedly it was Keith Barrett and his son who went round the ground with it btw.

I see the filthy smut merchant David Sullivan has also been having a go at us.

Aye. First thing I thought was: mate of Ashley, or at least an acqauintance of his.

Filthy cockney pervert, where's this ewerk?

Keith Barrett, never one to draw attention to himself eh?

The thing is though, we have a loud minority who hang around St James and give them soundbites galore. I mean that women who said it had 'ruined' her life, absoloutely pathetic. While this bloke is a cock, some of our lot don't half give these gutter press fuckers a big stick to hit us with.

By the way, I've just heard a rumour Dennis Wise was chinned by a Geordie Stag Do at Gatwick. Anyone else heard this?

Good if true although I don't condone violence. Look what Wise did to that Callum Davidson, who was trying to break up an argument so Wise broke his jaw.

Lots of unpalatable truths in that article even if we don't want to hear it. Still, you never know, maybe some Arab will buy us out rather than fuck off back to Egypt like the writer, who's only claim to fame is playing ping pong for his two-bit country.

Which two bit country would that be? he was English number 1 and represented Great Britain in the Olympics.

Well who'd have thought?

I bet this Syed character didn't even like football when he was a bairn.

And while I agree with SLP about certain types making us soft targets it is a pretty sad state of affairs when people of this quality are penning articles for The Times. Even 5live and the beeb in general, which you might expect to be reasonably impartial, aren't interested in the views of sensible fans. They basically want the morons to have their say and if anyone with an ounce of commonsense phones in they normally try and provoke a response. They then read out texts (since when did reading out fucking texts become an acceptable form of broadcast journalism btw?) along the lines of: "The Geordies should suffer consecutive relegations like Leeds. That will give them a does of reality." And: "Who do these Toon fans with their 'divine right' attitudes think they are?" As though these texts prove the view the presenter has taken is vindicated.

SULLIVAN SYMPATHY FOR ASHLEY

Birmingham co-owner David Sullivan feels sympathy for Mike Ashley, but has described his Newcastle counterpart as "naive".

Magpies owner Ashley came in for heavy criticism in the wake of manager Kevin Keegan's shock resignation and fans staged angry protests during Saturday's home defeat to Hull.

Ashley has since announced that he is looking to sell Newcastle after listening to the complaints of the Toon Army.

And Sullivan, who suffered the brunt of Birmingham supporters' unrest when the Blues were relegated from the Premier League last season, sympathises with Ashley.

"The demands of fans can have a wearing effect," said Sullivan in the Daily Mirror.

Ashley has defended his role in the exit of Keegan, who left following restricted activity in the summer transfer market, and claims to have spent £110million in a bid to manage the club's debts.

Sullivan has praised Ashley's business approach in the North East, but he believes the Newcastle owner has suffered from a lack of football knowledge.

"All Mike Ashley has done is throw money at the club, tried to balance the books and been castigated for it," added Sullivan.

"He's maybe a bit naive and not a football person, but he is not a mug.

"He took on the club as a business with massive debts and pumped in a lot of money to keep Newcastle going, but that is not sustainable.

"And though I think in England you have to let the manager manage, Kevin Keegan's track record is not that good."

He should stick to peddling his second rate porn

However, Birmingham co-owner David Sullivan believes Ashley will struggle to find a buyer.

Sullivan told BBC Five Live: "I don't think he will find a buyer - partly because he spent too much.

"Secondly people won't want to go into that environment because they know if things don't work out after six months they will get abuse.''

It's working tbf.

I don't mind people having a pop though. We're fair game at the minute. It's the catalogue of lies in articles like this I can't abide. There's not a scrap of decent analysis or insight in the whole thing. Reading it again, it actually says virtually nothing.

Some people in this thread all really showing the world that we're not the reactionary Neanderthals we're portrayed as.

If you deliberately set out to provoke people, you have to be prepared to take the backlash. If you then find the reaction not to your liking then tough shit. It's that simple

No, it's simpler than that, if you're so insecure that you get riled by something you've already realised is designed purely to provoke you, then you're a mug and deserve derision.
