Bagels. Are they bread or are they not?

Do you like them?

Plain, poppy seed, sesame seed, onion, or other type of bagel?

What would influence your choice of bagel over bread roll or another appropriate alternative?

What do you like to have on yours?

Guest northern soul

The bagel shop on Brick Lane (the one closer to Bethnal Green Rd) is the best place for bagels. (if your in the smoke that is)

My Top 3 would be :

1. Salt Beef

2. Cream Cheese & Salmon

3. Egg

How very high brow

In order to appeal to most of the posters on here you'll have to change bagels to toast I fear

I fucking love them !

I have onion bagels, I either have them buttered or with dairy-lea or with vegemite.

Gorgeous.

Onion Bagel with Tomato and Pesto

All of the ingredients have to be good to make it work. Bagels are only good if they were backed less than 1 hour before consumption othewise they are tasteless heavy garbage.

My favourite bagel story:

Tour Bus going from San Francisco to Santa Cruz filled with Yanks and European tourists. Bus stops in Santa Cruz briefly in front of bagel shop where everyone files out and gets assortment fo bagel goodness.

Once everyone is back on the bus a loud German tourist proclaims to his fellow comrads: "You know you just can't get a good bagel anywhere in Germany."

Loud voice from back of the bus responds: "That's becasue YOU KILLED ALL OF THE JEWS!"

Silence... follwed by inappropriate giggling by everyone but the Germans on the bus.

A cheese bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese in, theres now a bagel take away on Gosforth High Street which is canny, you can sit upstairs in big comfy settees with a bagel and coffee.
