Well Kinnear was apparently attending a match on friday night to look at a player - don't know who was playing like

COCA-COLA LEAGUE ONE

Bristol Rovers v Scunthorpe.

LEAGUE TWO

Chesterfield v Shrewsbury (7.30pm).

EAGLE BITTER UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE

Reserve Division One: Spencer v Raunds.

Says it all really.

Can't remember who said it, think it was an ex Arsenal player on Talksport, and he said that Kinnear had been spending a lot of time at Arsenal prior to his appointment at Newcastle, and Wenger was in the process of offering Kinnear a job as a scout, as apparently his eye for talent is well respected in the game.

His words, not mine.

I'm so cynical now I'm at the point where I wouldn't be surprise if JK was under orders to piss Owen off enough so he's away in January so at least we'll get a fee for him.

I had assumed Owen musn't have been fit yesterday, because otherwise to not start him would be literally insane. And then it transpires he was fit after all.

It should be a sackable offence, but of course no one is mad enough to take the manager's job at present.

Another thing I noticed yesterday was when we were awarded a free kick just outside the box and only Butt (ffs) and someone else came up to take it (can't remember who the other one was tbh - Duff?). A few years ago we had the like of Shearer, Robert, and Solano queueing up for these, with a high liklihood of them hitting the onion bag. Even Speed would be a much better option than what we have now (N'zogbia being idiotically absent at this stage and Geremi also not there). So depressing, this really could be our year for the drop.

Yes, HF, people have been saying this for years but it reminds me of the boy who cried wolf. We've been damn close to relegation for several seasons and now it's not going to take much to tip us into oblivion imo.

Said virtually the same thing to my Dad yesterday re: Butt taking the free-kicks and how we used to have a lot of good dead ball specialists.

Aye but as we know all too well the manager's opinion is secondary to that of Wise and Vetere's.

He did a canny job at wimbledon - when you think of some of the players he unearthed - and if no sale goes through for the club i think this will be the route we will follow - picking up lower division players to fit a system and play with some passion - but i think you still need to build that around a midfielder who has some quality - a Dennis wise type player

Yes, HF, people have been saying this for years but it reminds me of the boy who cried wolf. We've been damn close to relegation for several seasons and now it's not going to take much to tip us into oblivion imo.

Relegation in previous seasons has largely been hysteria, this season though we're not just under-performing, the entire club is set up to implode at the slightest provocation.

The only two rays of hope for us are really that someone might come in before January and that a lot of other people are dropping points too.

But a bad (or just non-existent) January and we could be in a a terminal nose dive that nothing can stop.

I don't agree it's been hysteria, the end points tally tells its own story. A couple of reversals (iirc a year ago one reversal, a loss at Sheffield united) would have seen us down. That's ridiculous for a club of our standing and support. This year things do seem to be stacked against us, I agree though that a takeover in january could save us however. But this will inevitably require a new manager and signings (especially if Owen leaves).

We've never been close, we've always been going to get points (like last season many on here were saying we'd not pick up 10 points out of 30 in the last few games, we got 18 or so, and almost finished in the top half).

The difference this season is that it's not going to take lots and injuries and some serious bad playing/luck to do it. This season we seem to be structurally aiming at relegation.

Also it is noticeable that a lot of the 'weaker' sides are putting together little runs of points. Apart from WBA, there doesn't seem to be anybody you can say will go down. We'll need to get 42 points. I'd say we need 10 wins from somewhere.

You don't agree with the bookies that Stoke are odds on for the drop?

The way Stoke are set up, we're more likely to go down imo.

Paul Ince at 7/1 on next manager to go looks mighty generous... :icon_lol:

I like how more than half the managers in the league are deemed safer than whoever the next Newcastle manager might be.

Yeah it's a strange league this season.

It's sort of working for us and against us at the moment. If we get sorted soon out we could plough up the table, but with the way things are we could get sorted out too late and even with a great late run still get relegated at a respectable points tally.

Still it's better than being firmly rooted in the bottom 3 at the moment I suppose.

West Brom's insistence to try and play like Arsenal with a team full of cloggers will be their undoing. Stoke can't run off Delap's throws forever despite it getting them critical points. As for the third place, I'd honestly say that there's about 6 or 7 teams that could realistically drop this year if they got on a bad run, us included in that.

Actually I was thinking today how it could easily go wrong for the likes of Blackburn and West Ham.

Aye, Blackburn are in trouble, I reckon especially if their key players continue to underperform. Plus, they've got a shocker of a goalkeeper and Ince's signings in the summer were poor considering the players they sold. Also missing Bentley a lot obviously. I think if Santa Cruz or McCarthy got on a canny run, they'd be fine though.

I'd like to see us go for a left back and a right back in January as I don't rate either of our fullbacks that highly.

The top teams have good attacking fullbacks but both of ours are useless going forward, Enrique gets dizzy when he crosses the halfway line and Beye's distribution is awful.
