A scheme which offers reduced bus travel fares for people who recycle has been launched in Aberdeenshire.

The "reverse vending machine" will dispense 50p money-off vouchers for every 100 drinks cans it takes.

The system, launched by Stagecoach buses and Aberdeenshire Council, will operate from the Ellon park and ride site to the north of Aberdeen.

It is thought to be the first scheme of its kind in Scotland and could be rolled out if a success.

The large machine resembles a drinks dispenser.

Stagecoach boss Brian Souter visited the park and ride site to launch the scheme on Friday.
