Ipswich are eyeing a £1.5m move for Newcastle striker Andy Carroll.

The England Under-19 international was frustrated at being overlooked in the Magpies' 5-1 home drubbing by Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday.

Manager Joe Kinnear kept Carroll, 19, on the bench despite the absence of Mark Viduka and Obafemi Martins through injury.

Carroll, who had a loan spell with Preston last term, has two years left on his contract but has made only one senior start for Newcastle in three seasons.

can only go imo if he's replaced with a top class striker

What?

he's crap but we shouldn't let him go unless he's replaced with better quality. we're too short of players as it is

If he was our 3rd/4th choice striker fair enough, but he's 5th at best and probably 6th in reality!

And worryingly we ended up playing an injured Shola ahead of him on Sunday.

he hasnt got enough hunger, he will turn out to be another kid that thinks hes made it. id loan him out for a season and let him do the business in the lower leagues, then if he cuts it in the championship give him a chance, if he dosent let him move on...thinking back he didnt make any major shockwaves when he was at preston a few years ago....

i like the look of ranger, looks a lot better prospect..

he's ahead of xisco as far as jfk is concerned, smith and vidukla are crocked, shola is shit. basically, our forward line this season consists of owen, martins and duff. we can't afford to lose another striker - even an average one like carrol - without bringing in a quality replacement.

Can they take shola instead?

or take shola as well.

When given a chance this season Shola has done ok = 3 goals and 3 assists I think and unless we do some serious transfer business Shola will be an important part of the team.
