The lowdown on Andras Gosztonyi – on trial at Newcastle

/ Transfer gossip

19/01/2009

According to reports in The Times and on Sky Sports, Newcastle have taken highly-rated Hungarian winger Andras Gosztonyi on trial.

The 18-year-old winger will be at St James’ Park for a week as Joe Kinnear looks to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window.

The right-sided player is believed to be worth around 200,000 euros and he can also play as an attacking midfielder through the center or on the left.

Gosztonyi is a part of the Hungarian Under-19 squad. According to IMScouting, he is a "consistent electric and offensive winger that can play on both the right and left side, he is right-footed, so he prefers the right wing. He helps a lot defensively, falls back and constantly runs up and down."

IMScouting’s network of scouts in Hungary add that Gosztonyi "likes to attack and face up to defenders without losing time. A very dynamic player, nevertheless he needs to gain more experience. Has very good technical ability and many skills."

Apparently another kid...

SLOVENIAN debutant Haris Vukcic was Newcastle United's match winner as he came from the bench to grab the only goal of the game at Ewood Park.

The 16-year-old only arrived on Tyneside last month and was enjoying his first taste of reserve-team action when he came on as a substitute midway through the second-half.

And with 15 minutes left on the clock Vukcic produced the one real moment of class in an otherwise scrappy affair as he dispatched a left-footed curler into the bottom corner with sniper-like precision from 20 yards out.
