If you must do it, do it near a pub.

Agreed.

Went camping for my mates stag do last year. We pitched up in a field near Prudda (oh aye, we know how to rock it) and it was fucking hell. The initial idea was that we spend the weekend getting pissed and stoned and generally having a laugh. We thought the weather was going to be good as it had been scorching the week prior but it rained nigh on constantly, it was windy and it was freezing. I've never been so miserable.

The trick to camping not sucking is having something to do.

Camping can be FUCKING BORING. If you're set up to go canoeing or rock climbing or fishing or whatever, you're already halfway to having a good camping trip.

If you're just loading up the car with your tent and whatnot and planning on spending a few days in the woods, you'll be back by dark.

Bring booze, weed, a guitar, canoes, a hacky sack, something to stave off boredom.

Think about what you normally do when the power goes off at your house and how mind-numbingly boring it can be. That is your main adversary in the forthcoming camping battle!

Crossbow tends to lessen the boredom.

Does your power not ever go off when you have storms and shit? Dude, ours goes off all the time around here in the spring and summer. Like at least a couple times a month. Not for very long mind you, but couple hours a month, I'd say.

Last January just after New Year's we had this big ice storm here. Knocked out a ton of power lines. We lost power for about 12 hours when it was like 10 degrees F outside. Fucking sucked, but it was nothing compared to some of the smaller towns around here that lost power for like weeks.

Very rare for folk to lose the power in UK. It can happen from time to time in some parts after a storm/flood/severe winter weather/plague of locusts on a biblical scale (especially on the outer islands of Scotland), but in the main things remain on.

Christ, that's amazing.

What really sucks is when we lose power at the manufacturing plant I work in. Completely fucks up the computers and equipment, which yeah, you guessed it, I'm in charge of taking care of.

dont do it. Its no fun. Its one of those things that you imagine is going to be great and then turns out to be a cold an early bed followed by a very early and cold rise.

If you must do it, do it near a pub.

This, in a nutshell.

Won't be doing that again in a hurry!

Its good if you have things arranged. Ill be going again in June over the lakes. We generally arrive, set up and have a few beers around the tent before having an early night. Get up early and do a 10-15 mile walk. Last year was up Fairfield / St Sunday Crag etc. Then we get back, quick wash and if like last year walk about 3 mile to a isolated pub then stagger back later, trip over some fucker elses tent and wake the whole place up....

Would be shite sitting in the camping place all day though

Better location might help as well.
