his touch tonight was different gravy.

imagine if we had a fit and hungry 26 year old viduka now? his touch and hold up play was superb all night.

crying shame that he never really had the desire to be a great, instead of a good player

I said before that he was pretty much playing Liverpool on his own the other week, and tonight once again he was top class, involved in anything good we did.

I'd certainly give him 1 more year on a pay as you play contract as he still has enough to offer under that kind of deal.

Probably wouldn't have even been on the bench tonight if Hughton / Kinnear were still picking the team as well.

One of the most annoying/shite things Hughton and Calderwood did was not pick him for games when he was available and then the second he got injured again in training they were whingeing about him not being available, they cost us points with that fucked up decision.

Think we both said at the time you more or less have to pick him when he's available as his next injury is just round the corner.

He brings a whole new dimension to the side. He's proper quality.

Nobody else in the squad can fill his boots tbh

true. he's unfit, slow, hasn't scored a goal in god knows how many games and yet he was still our best player tonight by a country mile.

i think he's wasted his career. he should have been a world class striker - he should have chalked up league and cup titles instead of winding up at the likes of boro and us because he couldn't motivate himself to stay off the pies and keep fit.

I think Shearer has used the players available very well to be honest. He knew he had to pick the Owen's and Viduka's, sadly Owen has been well out of form but Viduka has done his bit. Then realising Martins couldn't play 90 mins with his injury he's brought him on for as long as he could get out of him as an impact player, and if you watched Martins at the end his groin injury was clearly stopping him running , so Shearer timed it well!

he seems to want to play for shearer

Funny that as every contract draws to a close, Viduka suddenly shows that he is different class.

Another fat contract and watch him head straight to Greggs via the injury table.

Rumour back here from a couple of ex-player friends/commentators was he wanted to play for Kinnear as well but was being told in no uncertain terms not to bother.

He is (or can be) pure quality, just never fit and sometimes not bothered.:yahoo:

As I've said before, it's a world cup at the end of next season, so he will be chomping at the bit to play. A low wage and decent match bonuses, probably even a pay as you play deal would be enough to get another 12 months out of him.

He's made it known he wants to play in the next world cup, so the club should use it to their advantage.

The difference it makes to a team with an absolute dog shit midfield like ours cannot be underestimated tbh. Was a different class as has been mentioned-can only wonder what diference it might have made if we'd seen even 30% more shifts like this from him this year.

Desperate for more of the same in the last games.

His touches were sublime tonight. Also the first half of the hour, him and Owen looked like they could get us something. Though, when the midfield stopped providing there was nothing more to be seen from Owen but Viduka was still involved. He might look like a whale, but if he is keeping us up, I'll will join Greenpeace in the bid to save him!

Week-to-week pay as you play sort of arrangement (or low wage plus healthy match bonus) should do the trick.

Better on the ball than anyone else we have or could hope to attract in our current position.
