Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is working through Alan Shearer's list of demands and is hoping to clinch the deal which will secure him as manager this weekend.

The billionaire sportswear magnate has told Shearer, his advisers and fans to be patient as he draws up a policy to take the relegated club forward under the former captain's command.

Tough stance: Shearer wants guarantees over the running of the club

Shearer has confirmed to Ashley that he is willing to take the job if he can have a £15million transfer budget and get guarantees over the running of the club as he looks to cut the £74mwage bill.

He has told Ashley and managing director Derek Llambias the players he wants to keep and those he is willing to sacrifice at the right price.

Central to his rebuilding plans are defenders Steven Taylor, Sebastien Bassong and Habib Beye but they could attract interest from sides still in the Barclays Premier League.

Shearer has already put a £15m price tag on Bassong, a £500,000 signing from Metz last summer, who is looking to better his £5,000-a-week wages and has attracted interest from Arsenal, Aston Villa and Everton.

Rivals Sunderland remain confident they will be naming Steve Bruce as their manager as they look to negotiate compensation with Wigan, who want about £3m. But a £500,000 bonus Bruce is said to be owed could further complicate the situation.

Bruce has met Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn after he was given permission to talk to the club, who yesterday released Dwight Yorke, David Connolly, Darren Ward, Nick Colgan and Arnau Riera. Loan players Calum Davenport and Tal Ben Haim have also left while Michael Chopra will go to Cardiff in July.

Every day is precious man. Fucker should have had all this worked up in advance. It's not hard to work out what some of Shearer's demands would have been.

The reported transfer budget demand has gone down from 30 to 20 to £15million.

Isnt that also the amount in wages we save when the like of owen, viduka, cacapa etc leave?

If it is and Shearer's asking for more (which surely he must be doing) then they really haven't learned a thing.

If spent wisely that should be enough in the Championship shouldn't it? I mean Arsenal have probably won Premier League titles on less than that.

We're nothing like Arsenal though

That's the myth anyway.

Can't help but feel if he promised £50m Shearer will get £5m, £20m - £2m etc.
