Dyer plagued by fitness woe

Sadly, a lot of the news this last week has focused on the continuing inability of Kieron Dyer to pull a B&W shirt over his head, lace up his boots and get out running around on a football pitch for Newcastle United. The training pitches have been blamed, the pitch at SJP has been blamed, his life-style has been blamed (and refuted by Souness) and some witches in Seaham with ju-ju beads have been blamed. We now learn Dyer has a health problem but no-one at NUFC is elaborating and so some pretty meaty rumours are doing the rounds of the NE. A liver complaint, hepatitis and some which are just so far off the richter scale of salacious Tyneside gossip that even to air them couched in the most compromised of terms would be irresponsible. All likely to be bollox but they will continue until the club comes clean and tells supporters what is going on with a lad, Souness rates highly and agitated for a bumper c.£70K pw contract (you can choose to clag on an extra few grand pw without any substantiation - most people do) only a few months ago. Dyer missed the vital stages of our run in last season when we went crashing out of the UEFA Cup quarter finals in Lisbon and the FAC Semis in Cardiff. He's barely breathed in the air on a football pitch this season. At this moment in time it seems absolutely rank bad management given his appalling injury record alone (let alone the pain in the arse he has made of himself) for this kid to have been tied into a deal worth an astonishing amount of money. There is a big doubt he'll ever earn that money. Souness has been keen to play up how devastated Dyer is with this "latest set-back" © but tales of him bursting into tears and being severely depressed are unlikely to win much sympathy amongst a support that probably went beyond the point of no return last season when he refused to play for the club at The Beasts, was so diffident with the captain's armband and let's not forget who no-one came near when he was jeered at his every touch when playing for England at SJP last season. Its long been the contention of this rag he should have been pedalled a long time ago. We're just not getting anything from him. That is a statement of fact rather than opinion.

Christ on a Dyer?

I don't agree with that. I think Dyer's new contract is a calculated business risk. They think they can get him back playing at least enough to flog him as opposed to losing him on a free. Freddy's not exactly going to fork out that contract unless he has assurances that Dyer will play again.

Dyer's been a cock, he seems to be getting his head down. Anyone deserves the chance to prove that they mean it.
