A north-east businessman is planning to launch a £150 million takeover bid for Newcastle United.

Rick Parkinson, who has made much of his cash from the textiles industry, has joined forces with four other entrepreneurs and is preparing to make a formal offer for the club.

The Northumberland-based multi-millionaire's consortium is willing to pay £90 million to Mike Ashley, the current owner, plus £30 million for transfers and the same amount again for restructuring.

Earlier this week, Ashley put the club up for sale at £100 million. He embarrassed the club by inviting bidders to apply by e-mail, with a club statement saying: "Interested parties should contact Newcastle United at admin@nufc.co.uk (or Keith Harris at Seymour Pierce) for further details."

It was then revealed that they were open to offers for the entire playing staff. However, Newcastle officials distributed a definitive list of individuals they would prefer to move on at the earliest opportunity, in the hope that a core of the club’s best players can be retained for the Coca-Cola Championship campaign.

Managers at home and abroad have been told that a number of Newcastle players with considerable first-team experience are available for transfer with immediate effect. The sale of Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton, Jonás Gutiérrez, Gérémi, José Enrique, Fabricio Coloccini, Obafemi Martins, Shola Ameobi and Xisco is seen as a priority.

A different Toon: Rick Parkinson wants to transform Newcastle United

The Singapore-based Profitable Group - who have former Liverpool player Steve McMahon on their staff - earlier this week has confirmed their interest in buying Newcastle. They have indicated they want to keep Alan Shearer on as boss.

In addition, former chairman Freddy Shepherd has been linked with another

consortium.

In all honesty the only person that should buying the club is one smart enough to play less than £50m for it.

Unless they happen to be oil rich and even their pet hamsters have gold plated limos, in which case they can pay Assley whatever they feel like.

If he buys us let's hope he knows a bit more about football than Ashley, eh

Or nothing about football, but enough about life to know that he knows nthing about football so he'd best employ someone who does know enough about football to run a club, like Chris Mort for example

Surely anyone who is actually serious about this wouldnt announce their plans to the world a week before theyve got them sorted and made an offer?

Is the world full of Ashley-esque lunatics who have never heard of playing their cards close to their chest?

Poker with this lot must be a piece of piss.

"I'll see your 10 and raise you 500 did I mention I have a full house, Aces and Jacks?".

Why would a mackem want to be phtogtaphed in a black and white scarf?

Coupled with the fact no Newcastle fans gave a fuck, accustomed as we are to miles of column inches that turn out to be shite, the joke's on him tbh.
