Barton left out of Toon side for West Brom clash

By Lee Ryder on Aug 8, 09 04:17 PM

JOEY Barton is not expected to play against West Brom today after walking out of the club's training ground on the eve of United's first game of the season.

The Scouse midfielder - who is no stranger to controversy - is understood to have had a disagreement with Fabricio Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez before storming off the training field.

It means that Chris Hughton had to make changes to the side for the West Brom game.

The incident further fuels talk that all is not well in the dressing room at Newcastle going into the marathon 46 game season.

Hughton is expected to start with Andy Carroll and Shola Ameobi in attack with Kevin Nolan dropping back into midfield after expecting to start in the hole.

Barton starts the game on the bench.

wonder if the disagreement was that those other two dont give a shite lol

exactly, probably spot on with what he said but as usual, reacted in completely the wrong way.

1650: BBC 5 live report that Joey Barton had had a "bust-up" with Newcastle caretaker boss Chris Hughton and will start on the bench against West Brom in the late kick-off. Plus ca change..

For me both sources are just making shite up.

Thing is we're all sitting here slagging Barton yet for what?

For ages people have said of the bloke that he needs to take a step back and walk away before doing something stupid. Here we have a situation where hes got into an argument with other players and has two options.

Firstly, he can be Joey Barton the predictable lunatic and lace both Colo and Jonas (chances are they probably deserved it too) or he can become the new slightly more level headed Joey Barton and walk away from a destructive incident. If that walking away means getting in his motor and driving to the middle of the moors before beating the crap out of some tree then so be it, Id rather that than any of the other stories we've seen about the bloke in the past.

Theres no denying that JB is a passionate bloke when it comes to his football, half of the incidents hes been involved in are because he sets himself high standards and expects others to do the same. Thats a good thing, the problem is the way he normally goes about "re-educating" those that dont meet his criteria.

Personally, if this story is true then Im quite happy, we have the new JB who still gets worked up about stuff happening on the training pitch yet is able to control that anger and not let it spill out in a negative brawl.

What disturbed me were the reports that he had a go at Hughton as well. That sounds like the Joey Barton of the end of last season

Who wouldnt though? the thing with Hughton is that hes not a manager, he hasnt got it in him to bollock players and doesnt command the respect of those hes managing. IF someone like Barton can see others taking the piss and doesnt see anything being done to sort it out then hes going to get pissed off and will have a go at whoever he feels deserves it.

This is proven (for me anyway) by the fact that Barton took part yesterday. Either he didnt have a go at Hugton and the incident wasnt seen as a problem or he did have a go yet Chris still didnt have the bollocks to drop him totally from the team even if only to prove a point.

Yet again Barton acts like a wanker to detriment of the side. Any chance of him shutting the fuck up and doing his talking on the pitch for a change? Don't hold your breath.

Same old Toon as Joey lets rips

JOEY BARTON has laid into his Newcastle team-mates - again.

The Toon bad boy angered keeper Steve Harper by telling him he makes it easy for opponents to score.

He taunted others by saying they would be axed for his first-team return.

A source said: "Barton told Steve in front of the other lads that he was making it easy for opponents by staying on his line and that they knew it was his weakness.

"It did not go down well. He acts like a goalkeeping coach telling Harps how to do his job.

"In training, he has also been walking round asking 'Which one of you is getting dropped so I play this weekend'?"

Barton was axed for the season opener at West Brom last Saturday, after a training ground clash with Argy pair Jonas Gutierrez and Fabricio Coloccini.

In early May, the ex-jailbird was told to stay away from the club after a bust-up with caretaker boss Alan Shearer following a red card at Liverpool.

Newcastle, who play Reading at St James' Park tomorrow, are still up for sale, without a manager and in danger of losing what few stars they have.

David O'Leary looked like he might fill the Toon hotseat, yet has failed to agree terms with owner Mike Ashley.

The ex-Leeds boss was offered a two-year deal but there were differences over the package that could not be resolved.

Unless that situation alters, Joe Kinnear could be in line for a return.

Newcastle have yet to bring in any fresh faces, despite losing Mark Viduka, Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Habib Beye.

They could also lose central defender Steven Taylor and midfielder Damien Duff.

Everton are set to weigh in with an £8million offer for the Geordie, while Fulham have bid £4m for Irishman Duff.

He is right though so whats wrong with him pointing it out? if harper listens then he'd be the beter for it

as for the "which one is getting dropped" sounds like pretty standard banter to me but since its joey etc etc

He's right though. I don't rate Harper at all. I'd much rather we played Krul.

If it's true he's just showed what a wanker he is imo. Again. The fact he's never done it on the pitch for us either makes it quite ironic.

Exactly. Harper pisses me off on a weekly basis by taking too long to come off his line, so it must piss off his teammates at times too. Someone needed to say something because it doesn't look like the coaches were...it being Joey though, he probably just didn't go about it the right way
