Tim Krul Appreciation Thread

The worst part is, I've been looking for a solid young player who could be here awhile so I can get a jersey with their name on the back. Krul seems like the perfect choice, but then I'd have to get a GK jersey.

hahah he would be perfect though! I mean, with all the older players being shit/sold, what other jersey could I get? Ameobi? Carroll? Duff? Not happening. Krul is very tempting but I'm not too keen on the orange or the periwinkle blue...

Had an awesome game, as he did for us against Palermo in a game that seems light years ago.

Fully expect Ashley to cash in on him now, weren't Spurs sniffing not long back?

looks liek a "reaction" keeper - they're great to watch but I'd take a "positional" keeper anyday

His positioning was spot on you cretin!

TIM KRUL has revealed that milking the applause of the Toon Army at the end of his sensational performance at West Brom was one of the best feelings of his career so far.

The Dutchman – who links up today with the Holland Under-21 side to face England tomorrow – was making only his second appearance for United and remains unbeaten following a string of superb stops against Albion to help net the Magpies a point.

Krul followed on from his exploits in Palermo three years ago when he made his Toon debut with an equally outstanding performance against the Serie A side.

And he told the Chronicle today: “I’ve been waiting for it.

“Just to look at the 2,700 Geordies who travelled, there was nothing better. It’s crazy.

“Of course, your debut is the most important thing, but it was three years ago, and this is a fantastic result for the boys, and it gives us a good boost.”

But Krul was also concerned about the condition of his team-mate Steve Harper, who needed hospital treatment in the Black Country after taking a boot in the head from Shola Ameobi after United conceded the first goal.

Krul says: “My main thought is about Steve and his head – hopefully it’s not as bad as it looked.

“Of course, we’ll take it from there. I was just happy to get a point for the club – the boys were all pleased we came away with a point.

“First of all I realised straight away it was Steve’s head, so I felt really bad in the first place.

“Then I looked at Paul Barron, who said to get warmed up just in case.

“Steve was really dizzy, and I went to him when the first half was finished and he said it wasn’t very good at all.

“I’m hoping everything is all right.”

And reflecting on the series of top stops, Krul added: “The first one was after one minute, I think. It’s always good to get straight in. It was a great feeling, and got my confidence straight up.

“After that loads happened. For the volley, I was more protecting my face than making a save!

“It was fantastic – unbelievable again!”

I can kind of see what Rob W is getting at.

Except the inference is that Krul's postioning wasn't very good.

Granted.

So what bit did you agree with? That positioning is an important part of goalkeeping? Well in that case, in my opinion breathing is an important part of a humans life.

We knocked backed bids from Chelsea and Feyenoord iirc.

Well yes, but sometimes keepers with better positional sense make saves look a lot easier.

Im not having a go at Krul by the way or his positioning.

Is that back-handed criticism for making his saves look spectacular?

Tell you what, he's got massive potential to be a considerably better keeper than Given was. He needs to start on Saturday - fuck the sentimental bollocks with Harper - he isn't as good.
