The Championship leaders are the subject of a £100m sale as desperate owner Mike Ashley aims to quit the club at the earliest opportunity possible after putting them on the market in May following their Premier League demise.

First lady: X Factor judge Cheryl Cole insists she'd love to buy her beloved Newcastle United if she could afford the £100m asking price

Despite the prospective deal dragging on of late, local Tyneside businessman Barry Moat remains the firm favourite to takeover at St James' Park with icon Alan Shearer primed to return to the managerial hot-seat in place of caretaker boss Chris Hughton.

But the gorgeous Girls Aloud popstar - worth a reported £10m-per-year - insists she would lead a consortium bid - if she had the necessary funds.

Table toppers: Newcastle have made a great start to life in the Championship

On Monday's Real Radio, host Craig Beck asked Cheryl, 26: 'You must have got a bit of cash. You don’t fancy buying Newcastle and putting Ashley at left back?'

Double act: Cheryl Cole would get her husband Ashley to play at left-back if she could buy Newcastle

'You know what - if I had that kind of cash I actually would. I would at this stage,' she replied.

'I always think of Newcastle as home, that's my home. That's where my family are, and where my old friends are.

'I don't go back as often as I would like, but I always go up there for Christmas.

'I go back as often as I can - there is nowhere in the world like Newcastle.

Didnt think this warranted its own thread so just piggy backing here. :munch:

Derek Llambias, hapless managing director of troubled Newcastle, is now seemingly not prepared to accept messages from fans or media, having removed his address from the Newcastle email system. Llambias, who previously ran Newcastle owner Mike Ashley's favourite London casino, is best known at St James' Park for streaking across the pitch in front of witnesses and then denying he did it.

Surely she could get nadine and co to chip in, give them seats on the board.

That's an AGM i'd go to

Just as long as they divvent bring the ginga one.

I dunno i quite like her now, theres a small list of "allowed gingers" i have and she'd get on it.

Nadine is still top though (long as she doesn't speak)

Isla Fisher's in that list, right?
