TheMoog 0 Posted September 15, 2009 Share Posted September 15, 2009 Olympiakos have parted company with head coach Temuri Ketsbaia just two games into the new league season, the reigning Greek champions announced on Tuesday. The 41-year-old Georgian signed a three-year contract on May 25 but leaves the Pireaus club following a 2-0 away victory over Larissa and a goalless home draw with Kavala. "Olympiakos announces the mutual solution of its collaboration with coach Temuri Ketsbaia," the club announced via a statement on its official website. "The technical leadership of team will be temporarily undertaken by Bozidar Bandovic. His assistant will be Andreas Niniadis." The move is a surprise one given that it comes on the eve of the team's opening Champions League Group H match against Dutch champions AZ Alkmaar. Ketsbaia, a former midfielder, replaced Spanish coach Ernesto Valverde after becoming the first man to lead Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta into the group stages of the Champions League last season. Despite guiding Olympiakos safely through the Champions League qualification rounds, Ketsbaia was criticised by fans and the media for a 5-0 friendly loss to Erogtelis and following Saturday's 0-0 draw with newly promoted Kavala. Getting through a couple of Champions League qualifying rounds is no mean feat in the current set up and 4 points from 6 in the league sounds perfectly reasonable. This Greek club seem to think they are big, they get 17,000 in a 33,000 ground, play in red and white, and we beat them 7-1. How the fuck are they big? Ketsbaia is too good for a shit club in a wank league like that, anyone who can be one goal away from the Champions League second round with a Cypriot team has something special about them. Hope to see him in England soon, there's someone on here who's friendly with his wife, so if he does it will be a canny betting opportunity if the said poster spills the beans.
