Men queuing up for 'moob' surgery

Surgeons say the number of men seeking breast reductions is soaring

A record number of men are having cosmetic surgery to reduce the size of their flabby breasts, a plastics surgeons conference has been told.

A 44% rise in "moob jobs" between 2007 and 2008 was revealed, making it the fifth most popular surgery for men.

More than 1,000 men in the UK have paid £2,000 for the operation in the last year, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons heard.

Numbers coming forward have shot up by 1,000% over the past five years

Plastic surgeon Douglas McGeorge told the conference in Cardiff: "We are seeing men of all ages coming in to have their breasts made smaller.

"They are losing their inhibitions about the operation and deciding to undergo an operations which previously was a women's operation."

Reasons for the upsurge include men being more open now about their physique than years ago

Plastic surgeon Fazel Fatah

Mr McGeorge, who is based in Chester, said one recent patients was "typical" of the men who are queuing up for breast reduction.

He said: "It was a grandfather who had never taken off his T-shirt in his life because he was so embarrassed about the size of his breasts.

"He had never been able to strip to the waist on the beach in front of his own children - but was determined not to be in the same position with his grandchildren."

Mr McGeorge revealed the jump in male breast surgery at the annual meeting of the plastic surgeons association.

Members of the association operated on 323 men last year - a third of the estimated total for 2008.

Plastic surgeon Fazel Fatah said: "Reasons for the upsurge include men being more open now about their physique than years ago.

"And they can get more and more information about it from internet sites which encourage them to have the op."

Breast surgery for men pushed out the facelift to become the fifth most popular plastic surgery for men in Britan after nose operations, eyelifts, ear corrections and liposuction.

Surely it's a lot cheaper just to go to the gym? :D

They got fat for a reason. Pure laziness.

Reminds me of the Simpson episode where Homer gets obese to work from home. Burns then tries to unsuccessfully get him fit but gives up and pays for the lipo.

You probably do need surgery there Chris.

Id like to see anyone have the balance to dumbell press 120kgs!

60kg a side, it's not too difficult. (hardest part is getting them to the pressing position)

As if you can bench 20kg let alone 120. :o

The idea of that fucking nerd down the gym.

Peoples perceptions are interesting things (as opposed to Luke's hamsterness which is just plain visible ).

You perceive Fop as a "weak nerd", which is quite an interesting peek into your own psyche.

(although in fairness you're right that it would be unlikely to see Fop down the gym these days - as Fop's volcano lair is exceptionally well equipped  )

I take it you mean a barbell? Given that you dont even know the name of it im pretty sure you would struggle to bench 75kg. Nee fucker on this forum could bench 120kg

This bloke is doing about 40kg a side by the looks of it

Nope, Fop means what Fops say, dumbbells.

Why would you struggle at all getting a barbell into a pressing position?

Dumbbells on the other hand are pretty tricky (although doing it utilises a lot of muscles in itself), they are much better (if harder) to use though.

You're not going to pick up a set of 60kg dumbbells and bench-press them straight away, but a couple of years training and you can get there just needs a bit of dedication and will. Of course using a barbell you should be lift more, and using a machine probably even more still.

You would need someone to hand you the weights and probably be on an incline to press 60kg a side with dumbells. I top out at 40kg each side and if I am feeling weak will have to get someone to help getting the left arm into the right starting position.

60kg seems a bit excessive for a dumbell. Also agree with J69 in that you would struggle a lot with your balance even with plenty of work on your core muscles.

 so many here seem to believe this is  superhuman  or something.

Nope, you don't need anyone to hand you them at all (although it would be easier), however getting them into position is a fairly strenuous thing to do in fact as mentioned in some ways it is harder than the press itself and takes a bit of practice (Fop has many, many years of practice at this), also you can do flat and incline and indeed both in the same workout as they aren't much harder to get into position either way.

Admittedly there will be an upper limit to what is possible for a particular person to get into position by themselves, but 60kgs per side isn't it.

If you can only manage 40kg, then you can only manage that, but you can get stronger, Fop was there too once upon a time.
