Then again they may be just looking for stability of any kind or perhaps all three of those players may well feel they have no future at the club under Shearer (Barton certainly). Players trying to protect their own position, not sure Shearer would consider them good enough, for all sorts of reasons. In the same Butt story he was saying how much he wanted Shearer and that if Shearer doesn't get it, it should be Chris.
