The Manchester United manager will address a 1,000-strong gathering that will see some of the best-known names in the football world converge on Durham to celebrate Robson's life.

Gary Lineker, who played for England under Robson at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups, will also play a prominent role when he pays homage to the former Newcastle manager who died in July at the age of 76 following a long fight against cancer.

Sports writer Paul Hayward, who wrote Robson's memoirs, will also make a speech as will the former England manager's friend Tom Wilson and his Newcastle-based cancer specialist Professor Ruth Plummer.

England head coach Fabio Capello will pay his respects at the service, which starts at 2pm, as will former national team managers Terry Venables, Steve McClaren, Sven Goran Eriksson and Graham Taylor.

Football Association director Sir Trevor Brooking will be among the invited guests as will Robson's former England charge Paul Gascoigne and Alan Shearer, whose career he revived when he headed to St James' Park in 1999.

The president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, will lead a delegation of officials from the Catalan club to Durham to remember Robson who brought the European Cup-Winners' Cup to the Nou Camp in 1997.

The World Cup-winning Charlton brothers, Jack and Sir Bobby. will also attend while Ipswich manager Roy Keane will represent the Portman Road club where Robson built his reputation as a manager.

The Welsh soprano, Katherine Jenkins, will sing at the service as will Tenors Unlimited, who will revive memories of Robson's efforts to guide England to World Cup glory at Italia 90 with a rendition of Nessun Dorma.

Newcastle's caretaker manager, Chris Hughton, who will lead the entire first-team squad down the A1 for the occasion, said: "He was a very special person who would always make you come away from a meeting almost with a glow about you because of the way he made you feel."

Is it possible Mourinho isn't loved by others that would find it impossible to swallow their displeasure? Unlikely I know but weirder shit has happened.

I might just be projecting my annoyance at my boss bothering me at night...

I'm curious as to whether Freddie Shephard was at Sir Bobby's memorial service, but then maybe he wasn't invited.

I'd like to know just how many old players were in attendence, ones who had served under Bobby for club & country, but of course by invite only could limit the numbers.
